Business group offers training
BEEBE — The Phi Beta L ambda bus ines s organization at the Arkansas State University-Beebe Heber Springs campus hosted the 10th annual Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda Basic Training on Dec. 7.
FBLA students and their instructors from eight area high schools participated in training, with more than 135 students attending. Participating high schools included Clinton, Heber Springs, Pangburn, Quitman, Riverview, Rose Bud, Searcy and Vilonia.
The students participated in several business-related categories, and winners from each school district were as follows:
Computer Applications: Holden Schwulst, first, Vilonia; Justin Talley, second, Pangburn; and Braxton Butler, third, Pangburn.
Word Processing: Abigail Castaneda, first, Riverview; Camilla Green, second, Pangburn; and Jason Pearce, third, Rose Bud.
Spreadsheet Applications: Courtney Eddington, first, Heber Springs; Katelyn Ohlde, second, Vilonia; and Donte Adams, Riverview, and Jacob Smith, Heber Springs, tied for third.
Introduction to Public Speaking: Kaitlyn Ziemski, first, Vilonia; McKenzie Brister, second, Pangburn; and Lonna Reams, third, Quitman.
Website Design: Lawrence Baureis and Coby Carrol, first, Heber Springs; Lyrick Denney, second, Riverview; and Alex Prosser, third, Clinton.
Public Speaking: Konner Marsh, first, Pangburn; Taylor Hoover, second, Vilonia; and Lucas O’Neal, third, Searcy.
Graphic Design: Taylor Hammon and Cristina Welsh, first, Heber Springs; Bethany Ellis, second, Searcy; and Lauren Martin and Maddie Graham, third, Pangburn.
Impromptu Speaking: Seth Brown, first, Rose Bud; Dayton Lamb, second, Heber Springs; and Cecilia Rios, third, Riverview.
Entrepreneurship: Dani Marsh and Hailee Green, first, Pangburn; Oakley Vest, second, Searcy; and Zoe Zeman and Niko Mannon, third, Rose Bud.

Job Interview: Mitchell Gray, first, Vilonia; Brendan Wolfe, second, Pangburn; and Meleah Roy, third, Heber Springs.
Sports and Entertainment: Hunter Niele, Hannah Gordon and Gracie Massey, first, Vilonia; Kayden Summers and Joseph Strawn, second, Clinton; and Seth Holeyfield and Weston Simpson, third, Searcy.
Hospitality Management: Giovanni Mannon, first, Rose Bud; Emma Fowler and Amber Morse, second, Vilonia; and Kailey Staff and Gwen Holder, third, Heber Springs.
Students also had the opportunity to participate in a talent show. Winners were Abby Bone, first, Clinton; Isaac Matthews, second, Clinton; and Natalie Short, third, Heber Springs.
Weston Simpson and Haylie Sears, both from Searcy, each received a $250 scholarship to attend ASU-Beebe Heber Springs for the 2019-2020 academic year.
