The Passage
New Fox thriller is based on best-selling trilogy
Since his days playing charismatic teen Zack Morris on the ’80s sitcom Saved By the Bell (1989-1992), Mark-Paul Gosselaar has popped up from time to time in made-for-TV movies like the classic 12 Dates of Christmas, as a guest star on TV series such as Rizzoli & Isles, CSI: Crime
Scene Investigation and NYPD Blue, and as one of the stars of the amusing Franklin & Bash, in which he starred as a lawyer along with Breckin Meyer.
At 8 p.m. Monday, Gosselaar is back and starring in The
Passage, an action drama series written by Liz Heldens ( Friday
Night Lights). It’s based on author Justin Cronin’s trilogy of the same name, and is executiveproduced by Heldens, Ridley Scott ( Gladiator) and writer/ director Matt Reeves ( Dawn of the Planet of the Apes).
The Passage focuses on Project Noah, a secret medical facility where scientists are experimenting with a dangerous virus that could lead to the cure for all disease, but also carries the potential to wipe out the human race. When a girl (Saniyya Sidney, Hidden Figures) is chosen as a test subject, a federal agent (Gosselaar) is tasked with bringing her in, but soon becomes more like a surrogate father and determined to protect her at any cost.
The series also stars Jamie McShane ( Sons of Anarchy),
Caroline Chikezie ( The Shannara Chronicles), Emmanuelle Chriqui ( Murder in the First), Brianne Howey ( The Exorcist), McKinley Belcher III ( Ozark), Henry Ian Cusick ( Lost) and Vincent Piazza ( Boardwalk Empire).
