She was born and grew up in

Van Buren, Arkansas and was the youngest of a family of 8 sisters and brothers.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; Norman Bradley, seven siblings and one granddaugh­ter; Shawn. PAUL EDWARD BREWER, 86, of Jacksonvil­le, Ark., passed away on Dec. 21, 2018, in Madison, Ala.

He was born in Morrilton, Ark., on Aug. 6, 1932, to Albert Edward

Brewer and Cletis Irene Patterson Brewer. He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings, Etta Clara Brewer of Morrilton, Louise Plunkett of Hot Springs, Larry and Johnny Brewer, both of Morrilton.

Paul served honorably in the United States Air Force as an Air Transporta­tion Specialist and retired after twenty years as a Tech Sergeant. He was a veteran of the Vietnam conflict, having served two tours there. He loved meeting people and enjoyed golfing and driving around the countrysid­e in his cars.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Teresa Brewer; two daughters, Paula Cook of Alabama and MJ Watters of California; step-children, Stephanie Holder of Searcy and Michael Corrado of Cabot; two sisters, Wanda Clark and Melba Blankenshi­p, both of Hot Springs; a brother, Jimmy Brewer of Morrilton; and numerous grandchild­ren, nieces and nephews.

JEAN ELAINE (WALL) BYRD, 89, went to be with the Lord Jan. 13, 2019. She was born in Hoisington, Kan., on

Aug. 22, 1929, to

Ben and Iola Wall.

Jean loved spending time with her family and many friends. She was a member of the

Pulaski Heights

United Methodist

Church and a woman of great faith. With her son, Chris, she had been memorizing the books of the Bible and had memorized up to Amos before she passed away. An avid reader and traveler, Jean had a lifelong interest in politics and education. Mother was a calming force in our family life and brought sharp wit, a soothing voice, and much love. Mom always had her opinion and even though it may not have been the same as the person’s asking, she would honestly answer any questions and offer sound advice. Mother will be greatly missed and thought about every day. A sight, a smell, a sound will trigger memories of her for the rest of our lives.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Clarence Richard Byrd. She is survived by three children, Richard C. Byrd of Benton, David W. Byrd (Suzanne) of Benton, and Marian L. Byrd Oesterle (Bill) of St. Louis, Mo.; five grandchild­ren, and five great-grandchild­ren.

A Memorial Service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2019, at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church, 4823 Woodlawn Drive, Little Rock. Her cremated remains will rest at Urich Cemetery, Urich, Mo.

IRVIN OD COLE, age 92, of Little Rock peacefully left his loving home and family to be with Jesus

1926, to Eli and Josephine Cole.

He was a United States Army veteran of World

War II and the

Korean War. He owned and operated a commercial trash hauling business for over 30 years. He enjoyed working outdoors, gardening, fishing and hunting. He always was cheering on the Razorbacks.

He was a loving husband, father, grandpa and great-grandpa. He was a wonderful friend to all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, 7 brothers and 2 sisters. January 14, 2019 in Little Rock. He was born May

20, 1991, in Fort

Smith, to Carl and Paula Pledger Hanson.

As a child, Caleb was active in football, basketball, and baseball, but found his passion in running. In grade school, he ran with the Fort Smith Track Club, coached by Gerry Matlock. Beginning in the 8th grade, he was invited to run cross country for the Southside Rebels. As a sophomore, Caleb and his track teammates made it their goal to win a state championsh­ip. During his senior year, coached by Steve Peoples, that goal was accomplish­ed, winning the 2009 title. Shortly after graduation, Caleb qualified for the Nike Outdoor National Meet; where he won first place and set a national record for the mile run. Caleb accepted a cross country and track scholarshi­p to UALR, where he later graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science

degree.

Caleb asked Jesus Christ into his heart at the age of eight and was baptized at Murry Spur Free Will Baptist. He will always be remembered for his selfless, generous, and passionate spirit. His family is assured by grace and faith, they will someday rejoice alongside Caleb in heaven. He is survived by his parents, Carl and Paula Hanson; his sister Olivia Hanson; his maternal grandmothe­r Pearlie Robertson; two aunts, Kathy Hanson and Debra Askins, as well as his cousins, Timothy, Raymond, Michelle, Joseph, Larissa and Matthew. Caleb was preceded in death by his maternal grandfathe­r, Paul Martin, Jr.; paternal grandparen­ts, Raymond and Nell Hanson, and his uncle, Billy Ray Hanson.

–––––❖––––– KATHIE BARR HENDERSON, age 74, of Little Rock, Ark. passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2019. She was born to the late Lois Watkins Barr and Fred E. Barr on June 16, 1944.

She is survived by sisters Judith Rosenthal, Hot Springs Village, Ark., Nita Turner (Leslie), Lexa, Ark., Lynda Langford, Little Rock and brother Jesse Barr (Jane), Winslow, Ark.; two daughters, Anna (George) Alford and Karen (Kenny) Cook of South Carolina, five grandchild­ren and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her sister Janette Neff and brothers John Barr and Joel Barr.

Kathie graduated from Barton High School and Arkansas State University. She was first a school teacher and later worked for Digital in New Hampshire from which she retired. Kathie lived in South Carolina before moving to Arkansas.

She was born in Beverly Hills, California on November 23, 1956 to the late J.T. and Marie Haynie. Beverly enjoyed going fishing, working in her yard, gardening and most of all spending time with her family.

Our precious Mother and Mimi, JOAN PERKINS HORNER, passed away on January

16, 2019 of complicati­ons from a stroke. She was born March 21,

1934 in Manila, Arkansas to the late Anita and

Howard Perkins.

Joan’s hometown was Manila, but she faithfully drove daily 18 miles (each way) to be a Blythevill­e Chickasaw! She made life-long friends at BHS whom she traveled annually with up until her death.

After graduation, Joan attended Lindenwood School for Girls in St. Charles, Missouri. Shortly thereafter, she was swept off her feet by Glenn Horner and they were married for more than 56 years until his death in 2009. Joan and Glenn moved to Blythevill­e where they raised their children Ellis, Jane and Joe.

Joan loved music and was an accomplish­ed pianist, organist and played the bells (one of her favorite times of the year). She was a talented seamstress, a master gardener, an avid reader and a skilled bridge player. This southern lady was active in her communitie­s including the PEO society, the Junior Auxiliary and the Mississipp­i County Cotton Wives.

Joan relocated to Little Rock seven years ago where she was embraced by the Ben Miller Sunday school class at Highland Valley United Methodist Church. She loved moving to the “big city” and found many new friendship­s including the “Ya-Ya’s”.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn and her son, Ellis. She is survived by her daughter, Jane, and husband Joe Johnson; son, Joe Horner and his wife Annette; grandchild­ren, Denise Horner and Jay Horner; brother, Rance Perkins and his wife Martha; and nieces, Jennifer Perkins and Charlotte Perkins Caroom.

–––––❖––––– We announce with great sadness that MICHAEL H. LEWIS, loving husband to Johanna Lewis, passed away on Monday, January 14th, 2019 at the age of 67.

Michael was born on June 20, 1951 in Watertown, New York to Earl “Red” Lewis and Marion Lewis and married Johanna Miller on May 19th, 1984. He received his Masters degree from Wake Forest in Winston Salem, North Carolina in 1984. Michael earned a sterling reputation as a historian and curator at Colonial Williamsbu­rg and, after moving with Johanna to Little Rock, Arkansas, at the Historic Arkansas Museum, The Old State House and the Arkansas History Commission.

Michael maintained a lifelong love of history and was a collector extraordin­aire. He loved his cats, Scooter and Smidge. Michael was proud and most grateful to be a double organ transplant recipient and would encourage everyone to consider becoming an organ donor.

Michael was preceded in death by his father Earl and his mother Marion and is survived by his beloved wife Johanna, sister Suzanne, her children Kelly and David, many more nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and many dear friends.

Jesus Christ on Saturday, Jan. 19,

2019. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Peggy R. McElveen; son, Thom Rayne; grandson, Timothy McElveen; and great-grandson, Jacob McElveen. He was preceded

in death by his sister, Velma Simmons, and parents Odie and Lois McElveen.

Known by friends and family as “Buddy,” James was a deacon in his church, an outdoorsma­n, a veteran, and enjoyed many years traveling with his sweetheart Peggy in their R/V after retiring from a career with AT&T/Lucent, first as a tooland-die maker, then as an electronic­s technician. James loved fishing, especially fly fishing, hunting, scuba diving, riding motorcycle­s, and boating. He and Peggy made two Caribbean cruises after retirement. He was also an accomplish­ed home cook, fascinated by God’s natural world, and completely devoted to his wife, Peggy, whom he cared for with almost super-human strength during these recent years after she developed dementia. He was always interested in the latest technology and operated a Ham radio station for fun and as part of the emergency network in the 1980’s and 1990’s. He also kept up with the latest in computer and cell phone technology. He loved music, especially southern gospel music, and sang bass in his church choir for most of his years. In their R/V, he and Peggy toured with Campers On Mission for several years, helping rebuild and restore life for others.

The family would like to express their gratitude for the exceptiona­l level of care provided by Cottage Lane Health and Rehab in Little Rock, Ark.

–––––❖––––– KEAGAN ROBERT PROVOST, 8, born Feb. 11, 2010, went to be with the Lord Thursday, Jan. 17, 2019, at 7:54 a.m. after a very long 7 years, 10 months battle with ependymoma brain and spine cancer.

Keagan was the absolute definition of a warrior and will be forever loved and missed by so many.

D. GENE WILSON, 89, of Jacksonvil­le, died Friday, January 18, 2019. He was born on

May 17, 1929 to the late Fred C. and Evalena Purdum Wilson in Jacksonvil­le. He is also preceded in death by his sister.

Gene will be remembered for his love for music, building and flying airplanes, and tinkering around in his shop. After WWII he served in the Air Force on a B-29 squadron based in Guam and also served in the Korean War. Gene retired from Timex after 40 years of service as Chief Gauge Engineer.

Gene is survived by his wife of 58 years, Virginia Wilson; two daughters, Jenny Wilson, Beverly Wilson Newsom (Kenny) both of Jacksonvil­le; and two grandchild­ren, Zachery Newsom of Orlando, Fla., and Delanie Newsom Myers (Clayton) of Sherwood.

Hughes Westbrook. Phyllis resided in a Care Facility since 2010. Her childhood days were spent in North Little Rock, and she graduated from North Little Rock High School. After graduation, she attended the Catholic School of Nursing. While attending nursing school, she met and married Bob Arnold on April 20, 1956. Their marriage lasted over sixty-two years. Phyllis and Bob traveled to most all of the states and abroad as well, seeing many countries. She enjoyed life and was loved by all.

Besides being a homemaker, Phyllis was also an administra­tive assistant to the buyers for Kroger Food Stores, and, later, she worked for Arch Haltom Food Brokerage. In January 1959, Bob and Phyllis were blessed with a son, Bret Arnold, and her world became that of a gentle, soft-spoken, caring, gracious lady taking care of her family. She was also blessed later with a daughterin-law, Elaine Arnold. Phyllis was also the caregiver for her mother, who had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s for nearly 20 years.

Her hobby of family genealogy sent her to many libraries, court houses, and anywhere there were records of her family on file. Phyllis was a faithful Christian and a member of Cabot Church of Christ. She had a special interest and passion to watch over and care for the older ladies of the congregati­on. She would be the one to cheer up a lonely person, going to sit with them and insure that everything was fine with them, showing her Christiani­ty by her loving actions.

Phyllis is survived by her husband, Robert “Bob” Arnold of Cabot; her son, Bret Arnold and his wife, Elaine of Cabot.

He graduated from Liberty School and Westmar College. On November 28, 1959, Larry united in marriage to the love of his life, Sandy. To this union, two sons and three daughters were born. Larry began his career of teaching and coaching at Pierson Schools and continued his career at Hinton High School until 1980 when he moved his family to Cabot. Larry then became a Pulmonary Respirator­y Therapist until his retirement. Larry was a member of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Larry enjoyed golfing, watching sports, and sitting outside in his backyard with his two cats. Family was everything to him and he took great pride in his children, grandchild­ren and great-grandchild­ren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-seven years, Sandy; brother, Charles Yoerger and daughter-inlaw, Cynthia Yoerger.

Martha was preceded in death by her husband, J.O. Moore, Jr. and survived by her daughter Amanda Moore (Thomas Trussell) of Conway; a granddaugh­ter Tasha Moore (Tim Morris) of Birdtown; and a grandson Martin Trussell of Fayettevil­le. –––––❖––––– FORDYCE — Billy Joe Evans, 92, of Fordyce, Ark., died Jan. 18, 2019, at St. John’s Place in Fordyce. The son of Oma and Noel Evans, he was born May 9, 1926. He graduated from Thornton High School and spent 68 years on the same acre of land outside of Thornton where German Shepherds, horses, cows, and pigs could be found.

Ordained on Dec. 31, 1950, he served as pastor to 11 congregati­ons in south Arkansas before retiring from active ministry in September 2013 and joining First Baptist Church Fordyce.

As a bi-vocational minister, Billy worked at Georgia-Pacific Corporatio­n as a purchasing agent for 42 years until his retirement in 1991, owned and operated Evans Monument Company for 54 years, and enjoyed teaching singing schools, reading, and piddling around the farm.

His love of gospel singing led to meeting a piano player named Kittye Jo Curtis, who married him on April 21, 1955. They became Joe Daddy and Jo Mama to two children who survive him: Cheryl Collins of Herndon, Va., and Curtis (Melissa) Evans of North Muskegon, Mich.

He was known and loved as “Papa” to his grandchild­ren Geoffrey (Jamie), Christophe­r (Jordan), Matthew, and Emily Evans; and great-grandchild­ren Joelle and Maia, all of Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law Don Collins.

He was born Dec. 28, 1949, in Beaumont, Texas, a son of the late Robert Franklin Poe Jr. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Steed Poe; his mother, Marguerite Fern Poe of Selma, Ark.; a son, Robert F. (Dustin) Poe IV.; a stepson, Joseph R. (Jody) Hardin Jr.; two brothers, Toby and Michael Poe; sisters-in-law, Celena Poe, Paulette Smith, Beth Foster, Brenda Steed; and brothers-in-law, Rick Steed and Dr. Joel Foster. He had one granddaugh­ter, Sara Jo Hardin of Fort Smith, Ark., as well as numerous extended family and friends.

He attended Dermott Public Schools and received his Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from University of Arkansas Monticello. In his early career, he coached football at Dumas, Dermott, and Strong and is still affectiona­tely known as “Coach” by many of his peers. He later travelled the country as a pipe fitter and welder and eventually retired from Potlatch Corp. in 2008.

Robert was a member of First Baptist Church of Gould. He was an avid outdoorsma­n and enjoyed watching all sports, especially the Arkansas Razorbacks.

–––––❖––––– HEBER SPRINGS — Gary Dale Morgan, only son of Richard and Alda (Hubbard) Morgan, passed away at the age of 76 at Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock on Jan. 9, 2019. Gary, revered by his students, completed his undergradu­ate Education degree at Arkansas State Teachers College and his Masters of Education at Ole Miss. He later received his LPC from the University of Arkansas. A Licensed Profession­al Counselor, Gary was nominated for and proudly served on numerous boards at the local, state and national levels.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his half-brother, Joe Morgan. HOPE — Mrs. Velora Bright Haltom, age 80, of Hope, Ark., passed away Friday, Jan.

18, 2019, in Crowley, Texas. Mrs.

Haltom was born in Prescott, Ark., on Feb. 19, 1938, to Ruvel Edward and Glen Velora Andrews Bright.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill Haltom; a great-grandson, John-Raven Cobb; a brother, Charles Bright; and a son-in-law, Dean Head.

Mrs. Haltom was a retired Hempstead County Clerk with 22 years of public service, making her the second-longest County Clerk in Hempstead County. She was a life-time member of First Baptist Church in Hope, serving as a Sunday School Teacher and a choir member. She loved gospel music and singing with the Good Life

Singers. She was a former member of the Hope Business and Profession­al Women, Hope Lioness Club, Hope/Hempstead County Democratic Women’s, Eastern Star and a ticket collector with the Southwest Livestock Rodeo. Mrs. Haltom never missed a political function with her friends, Margie Vickers and Carolyn Neel.

Bennett and Elva A. Scroggins. She was the widow of Paul Anthony Gunderman and a homemaker. Shirley was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Altar Society, and Booster Club. She was a very proud wife, mother, grandmothe­r, and great-grandmothe­r and was an avid political junkie. Her greatest comfort was that she married the love of her life and joined him for eternity.

She is survived by her children, Angela (Tim) McCarter of Huntsville, Alabama, Susan Gunderman (fiance Billy McCoy) of Morrilton, and Sonya (Jon) Chadek of Morrilton; grandchild­ren, Michael (Kristin) Colvert, Adam Chadek, Jenna Chadek, and Logan McCoy; and great-grandchild­ren, Lawson, Asher, and Elise Colvert. She is survived by one son Nicky Benson (Penney) of Searcy, two daughters Tammy (Benson) Berry of Little Rock, Regina Prothro (Tony) of Hot Springs; six grandchild­ren, Tiffanie Hearn, Jillian Hastings, Kyle Benson, Kayla Dill, Kody Prothro, Kaleb Prothro; and eleven great-grandchild­ren, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

She was born on July 7, 1961, in Hot Springs,

Ark., to Robert and Terry Williams. Dee was married 29 years to Jeff Kessinger who died in 2014. She graduated from Dover High School (Pope County, Ark.), earned a BA from Hendrix College and a MFA from California Institute of the Arts.

She is survived by her sister, Renee Williams and Renee’s husband Chris Stewart of Little Rock, Ark.; by her cousins Joshi Marshall and Zoe Marshall of Oakland, Calif.; by her cousin twice removed, Elizabeth Rose Black of Conway, Ark.; by her cousins once removed Werner Frith and Bruce Frith of Little Rock, Ark., Johnathon Saldivar-Kitto of Indiana, Katherine Kott of Oakland, Calif., and David Sard of New Jersey.

As an artist, she participat­ed in exhibition­s in Austria, Denmark, Germany, Mexico, and the United States. She was a much beloved art and photograph­y teacher starting in 2004 at UCLA, USC, Chaffey College, Loyola Marymount, Calif. State University, and most recently at Chapman University. Dee was a member of the Board of Directors of the Michael Asher Foundation in Los Angeles, Calif., from 2012 to 2015. Over the last 17 years, she participat­ed in numerous lectures, panels, performanc­es, readings, and curatorial projects in Mexico City, New York City, and Los Angeles. Her photos have appeared in numerous publicatio­ns including articles written by her for internatio­nal art studies journals. She was named an “artist to watch” in the February 2005 issue of Vogue Italia.

Stebbins Jr. “Ted” age 49, of Deering, N.H. passed away on January 12, 2019 due to complicati­ons related to a traumatic brain injury (TBI) sustained at age 16. Ted attended Belmont Hill School, Belmont, Mass., and, after his accident, Massachuse­tts Hospital School in Canton, Mass. He has lived at Robin Hill Farm, a residentia­l brain injury home in Deering NH, for the past 27 years.

Ted will be remembered for his infectious sense of humor, his courage in facing disability and his deep desire to help others. He was featured in a full page article in the Boston Globe in 2005 as a courageous survivor of TBI and also on the 2017 Facebook page of the Hillsboro District Food Pantry as a weekly helper and donor. He had an ownership share and enjoyed a role helping with marketing for Amazing Grace Private Home Care in Weymouth, Mass., a family business operated by his brother, Harrison.

He is survived by his parents, TL and Lucinda Stebbins of Naples, Fla., Chestnut Hill, Mass., and Melvin Village, N.H.; his two brothers, Harrison (“Rusty”) of West Roxbury and Tom and his wife Johanna of Delmar, N.Y. He was a loving uncle to Lyla and Grayson Stebbins and a loving partner to Cathy Panniello, who lived with him at Robin Hill Farm.
