Southern Arkansas edges Arkansas Tech

C.J. Elkins made two free throws with 20 seconds left to lift Southern Arkansas University to a 78-75 victory over Arkansas Tech University on Saturday in Magnolia.

Elkins’ two free throws gave the Muleriders (18-5, 12-4 Great American Conference) a three-point lead and they held on after a missed three-pointer by Arkansas Tech’s Will Adler.

Freddy Lee led Arkansas Tech (8-14, 6-10) with 23 points, 7 assists and 4 rebounds.

Elkins led the Muleriders with 18 points and 7 rebounds. In other games involving state Division II teams, the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith cut a 60-36 deficit in the first two minutes of the second half to 97-89 with 55 seconds left before losing 101-91 to Dallas Baptist in Dallas. David Ward and Tyler Williams scored 20 points apiece for UAFS (9-14, 3-8 Heartland Conference). Chandler Jacobs led Dallas Baptist (17-7, 9-2) with 33 points. … KJ Lesure led the University of Arkansas at Monticello (14-8, 10-6 GAC) with 24 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists in a 68-64 victory over Henderson State University in Monticello. Marcus Gilbert had 12 points and 5 rebounds for the Boll Weevils. Chris Parker led Henderson State (14-8, 9-7) with 20 points and 4 rebounds.
