ALABAMA A&M 60, UAPB 54

Alabama A&M outscored the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff 21-9 in the third quarter to turn around a 32-30 halftime deficit and beat UAPB on Monday night in Huntsville, Ala.

Alabama A&M shot 52.9 percent (9 of 17) from the floor in the third quarter and held the Lady Lions to 2-of-10 shooting (20 percent), while outrebound­ing UAPB 12-7.

UAPB which trailed 52-41 going into the fourth quarter, scored the first five points of the quarter on a layup by Noe’ll Taylor, a free throw by Shawntayla Harris and a layup by Kye Richardson and eventually closed to 56-54 on a layup by Taylor with 2:16 left, but DeShawna Harper made a layup with 43 seconds left and followed that with a field goal and free throw with 15 seconds left to seal the victory.

For the game, Harper led Alabama A&M (11-11, 6-5 SWAC) with 18 points and 6 rebounds. Nigeria Jones had 16 points and 6 rebounds.

Atitiana Vincent led UAPB (4-14, 1-10) with 15 points, 4 rebounds and 4 steals.

UAPB 69, ALABAMA A&M 60

Martaveous McKnight scored 24 points and had 4 rebounds and 3 assists in leading the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff to a victory over Alabama A&M in Huntsville, Ala.

Artavious McDyess added 13 points, while Shaun Doss and Terrance Barnyard added 11 apiece for the Golden Lions (915, 6-5 SWAC).

UAPB shot 21 of 41 (51.2 percent) from the floor, made 24 of 30 free throws and outscored Alabama A&M 30-24 in the lane.

Jalen Reeder led Alabama A&M (520, 4-7) with 15 points and 3 rebounds, while Andre Kennedy had 14 points and 4 rebounds.

Alabama A&M was held to 44.7 percent (21 of 47) shooting from the floor and made 12 of 21 free throws.
