CHRISTI GAY BRUICH, 48, of Little Rock, Ark., went to be with the Lord Monday, February

11, 2019. She was born December 9, 1970, in Pine Bluff,

Ark., to Carol Mitchell Speer and John Roy

Speer.

Christi was a devoted mother who cherished her daughter, Fallon, from the moment of first hearing her heart beat several weeks into the pregnancy. Fallon was truly her mom’s “mini-me” and the two enjoyed eight short but wonderful years together making crafts, baking, going to the movies, mommy-daughter slumber parties and a host of many happy times.

She graduated North Little Rock Ole Main and attended Central Baptist College and the University of Arkansas, Little Rock. She worked in the commercial insurance industry and later became a medical transcript­ionist for Radiology Consultant­s. Christi was passionate about reading and her hobbies included cross-stitching and baking. Friends and family considered her holiday desserts and candies second to none.

Christi accepted Jesus Christ as her savior as a teen after hearing her Papo, Reverend Gene Mitchell preach the gospel at Parkview Baptist Church, where she was also baptized by him.

Perry and Mary Catherine Perry. She was the youngest of 10 children, all have preceded her in death. Juanita worked as a teacher for 18 years with the Head Start Program in Granite Mountain.

She is survived by: two daughters, Patricia Plummer White (Booker), Detroit, Mich., and Brenda Curry Gillespie, Little Rock, Ark.; three grandchild­ren, Benjamin B. Speight (Natasha), Detroit, Mich., Lynette K. Vinson, Dallas, Texas, and Jennifer R. Gillespie, Southaven, Miss.; one grandchild, Corey Speight, proceeded her in death. Juanita has 10 great-grandchild­ren, and three great-great-grandchild­ren. She is also survived by one brother-in-law, Billy Ray McJimpson, Los Angeles, Calif., two sisters-in-law, Bernice McJimpson, Little Rock, Ark., Lenora Hopkins, Memphis, Tenn., and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

JOE MIKE HAMMOND II, age 71, of North Little Rock, passed away February

Helen Lucille Hammond. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Joe worked in sales and was a member of Rose City Emmanuel Baptist Church and Park Hill Baptist Church. He enjoyed music, golf and riding motorcycle­s with Mickey, Carol and Debbie. Singing was his passion, leading him to a record deal with RCA Records in Nashville in his earlier years. He was in the bands Groovin’ Kind, Common Good, and Lemonade Charades.

He is survived by his former wife, Diane Mayer; daughter, Candace P. Amberg of North Little Rock; three grandchild­ren, Collin McReynolds, Hunter Amberg and Carson Lydon; one great-grandson, Bradon McReynolds; two sisters, Sarah Lee (Phil) and Mary Ellen Coburn; and by many nieces and nephews.

16, 1919. John’s parents, his brother, Irvin, and wife Mary Katherine (Kay) preceded him in death. He is survived by his nephew, John William Landwehr (Cherril) of Klamath Falls, Ore., and his niece Mary Olson (Joe) of Roseville, Minn.

John graduated with a degree in engineerin­g from Washington University, in St. Louis, as did his father and brother. After college graduation, John married the love of his life, Kay Stanfield. During World War II, John was a civilian contract employee with Philco Corp. During that time, he worked closely with flight crew trainees and radio engineers at the Army Air Field Pilot School in Columbus, MS. Following the war John began a long career with Southweste­rn Bell Telephone company in St. Louis. He and his wife moved to Little Rock, in 1951. John enjoyed sailing, skiing, model railroadin­g, travel, wood carving and gardening. He had a particular love of orchids and his dachshund dogs.

John’s life will be celebrated by his family and friends in the Fellowship Hall at Grace Presbyteri­an Church (9301 N Rodney Parham Road, Little Rock, Ark.) on February 17 (12 noon to 2 p.m.). Matthew graduated with honors from the University of Central Arkansas. He was a kitchen manager at Brewski’s Pub. Matthew enjoyed painting and cooking.

Preceding him in death was his wife of 62 years, Syble Bernice Rainey Powell; daughter, Judy O’Donell; sisters, Fay Powell Wroten, Florida May Potter; brothers, Fleet Powell, Floyd Powell, Fred Powell and Fulton Powell. He is survived by his son, Bill Powell and wife, Marilyn, of Conway; brother, Flake Powell and wife, Norma, of Maumelle; sister Fairlee Stewart and husband, Dave, of Aplin; grandchild­ren Bart Coates of Cabot, Christy Hockaday and husband, Chris, of Baton Rouge and Conway, Cindy Ledbetter and husband, Michael, of Conway, and Cathy Shourd and husband, Jon, of Conway. Great-grandchild­ren, Megan Ledbetter Stroud and husband, Alex, of Searcy, Rachel Ledbetter of Searcy, Abby Shourd of Arkadelphi­a, and Haley Shourd of Conway; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Ferd was a member of the Oppelo Assembly of God Church where he served as deacon and Sunday School superinten­dent for over 60 years. He served as speaker and advocate for the Gideons Internatio­nal, raising funds to place Bibles in schools, hospitals, and hotels. He retired as manager of the Industrial Equipment Store of Morrilton after over twenty years of service. In his early years, he served as a craftsman and worker for Mitchell’s Store. He often worked the voting polls serving his community. For many years, he made hundreds of visits on weekends to the Perry County Jail talking with inmates regarding their life direction and faith.

Ferd enjoyed the outdoors. He loved deer and turkey hunting with the Powell family and fishing when he could. He built his home and worked on his property in Oppelo and loved to open Christmas presents ahead of everyone else. Ferd was blessed with a full life; even in his last two weeks of life, he was in conversati­on with friends and family reminiscin­g of past and present.

WILMAR — Peggy Calhoun Lasiter, age 70 of Wilmar, passed away Thursday, February 14, 2019 at CHI St. Vincent Hospital in Little Rock. She was born August 10, 1948 in Monticello, Ark. to the late A.L. Calhoun and Thelma Miles Calhoun.

She was a retired supervisor at Burlington Industries and of the Baptist faith, attending Pauline Missionary Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by one son, Alan Dewayne Lasiter and one brother, Johnny Calhoun.

Survivors include her husband, Ben Lasiter of Wilmar; one daughter, Tina Hillyard of Fayettevil­le; two sons, Dusty Lasiter of Wilmar and Michael Joe Lasiter and wife Shawn of Monticello; three brothers, Ralph Calhoun and Jim Calhoun both of the Barkada community and Gerald Calhoun of the Green Hill community; four sisters, Wanda West of Warren, Barbara Beaty of Monticello; Sandar Parker of Rowell and Judy Tipton of Conway; four grandsons, Dewayne Norrell and wife Marissa of Little Rock, Nikolas Hillyard of Bentonvill­e, Noah Gage Hillyard of Fayettevil­le and Dustin Lasiter and wife Ashley of Columbia, La.; one granddaugh­ter, Madison Lasiter of Milo; four great-grandchild­ren, Cecily Brooke, Bentley Alan, Tandyn Rhette and Tyler Reid.
