Arkansas postcard past
HELENA, 1912 The Missouri & North Arkansas Railroad was starting to experiment with combination gas-electric engines, a major early departure from the reliance on steam engines. The railroad ran some 350 miles between Neosho, Mo., and Helena. Plagued by labor strikes and management problems, the railroad shut down in 1946. Card courtesy of the Depot Museum at St. Joe.
