SATURDAY Wildwood FEASTival

Wine, spirits, beers and “artful edibles” from a dozen and a half central Arkansas purveyors of food and drink will be the highlight of the 21st annual Wine & Food FEASTival, 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Wildwood Park for the Arts, 20919 Denny Road, Little Rock.

The fundraiser will also include music for dancing from the Greasy Greens, a cork pull supported by Arkansas Life, a silent auction and raffle. Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits is supplying the wine and spirits. Tickets are $75. Proceeds support Wildwood’s botanical gardens, arts programmin­g and the Wildwood Academy of Music and the Arts. Young musicians

Twenty-one musicians from across the United States will compete in the Delta Symphony Orchestra’s 29th Young Artist Competitio­n, 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Saturday in the Fine Arts Center, Arkansas State University, 2412 Quapaw Way, Jonesboro.

Grand-prize winners will receive $750 each; winners in each category receive $500 each and the outstandin­g high school student will receive $100. Winners can also perform with the orchestra in a May 5 concert. The competitio­n is open to the public. Call (870) 243-0273.

ETC. Museum break

Two PBS Kids characters will drop by the Museum of Discovery, 500 President Clinton Ave., Little Rock, during spring break week:

■ Meet and take photos with Jet Propulsion of Ready Jet Go!, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday and the museum will also offer hands-on space exploratio­n activities.

■ Nature Cat will meet and take pictures with guests, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday; the museum will also provide hands-on activities to help guests explore nature and meet-and-greets with some of the museum’s animals.

Throughout the week, there will be hands-on activities, science demonstrat­ions, Tesla shows and opportunit­ies to meet museum animals; guests can also explore the museum’s “Tape & Tunnels” exhibition of slides and tunnels made out of packing tape, which closes March 24.

Folk Center break

Artisans at Ozark Folk Center State Park in Mountain View are offering two-hour, hands-on spring break classes in candle-, jewelry-, soap-, cheese- and broom-making, basket weaving, drawing, leather working, blacksmith­ing, Kumihimo braiding, quilting, stained glass, pottery and printing for youngsters 12-16, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-March 22.

Kids age 7-11 can explore pinch-pot pottery, soap carving, music making, story creating, drawing, pioneer skills and other subjects in Folk Kids day-camp-style classes, also 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

At 3 p.m. each day, all students can play party games and learn, during Ozark roots music sessions in the White Oak Theater, square dancing, jig dancing and how to play rhythm instrument­s.
