Founded in 1877, Philander Smith College is a private, historically black fouryear liberal arts institution supported by the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry of the United Methodist Church. The career-oriented college has a rich legacy of providing an educational experience that embraces academic excellence, builds self-esteem, cultivates critical-thinking skills and prepares students to be servant leaders and advocates for social justice.
ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE
With more than 25 academic programs and concentrations, students have the opportunity to pursue the education that fits their passion and career goals. New academic programs are being developed in response to the changing demand in workforce needs. A Mechanical Engineering Program is also being established to provide education and experiences for students with an interest in mechanical-related fields.
