■ Bernie Sanders, 77, the Vermont senator seeking the Democratic presidenti­al nomination, sported a large bandage on his forehead at a campaign event in South Carolina after cutting his head on the edge of a glass shower door and then getting a half-dozen stitches at a walk-in clinic.

■ Kerry Jo Hickman of Oologah, Okla., was arrested after she was discovered with a T-shirt-launching gun in her car, which authoritie­s said she used to blast a package containing drugs, cellphones and other contraband over the fence of a state prison in Sayre.

■ Rene Flores-Calderon, a 35-year-old Mexican man who has been deported at least six times, pleaded guilty to transporti­ng people into the U.S. illegally after he was caught driving on an interstate near St. Louis with 10 adults and three children illegally in the U.S. as passengers, prosecutor­s said.

■ Michael Seed, 58, a security-alarm specialist identified as the ringleader of a gang of mostly older men who stole jewelry worth millions of dollars from a London safe-deposit storehouse in 2015, was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

■ Jared Brown, 45, of Malden, Mo., a chief of staff to a state senator, was charged with unlawful use of a weapon and peace disturbanc­e after his handgun fell to the floor during a bar fight in Jefferson City, where he told police he was “highly intoxicate­d.”

■ Tim Dudley of Galveston, Texas, says that new light-emitting diode streetligh­ts being installed by the city are “horrible” and residents are complainin­g about an unwelcome glare inside their homes, but officials say the lamps have cut the city’s electric bill by 40 percent.

■ Mike Cazes, the sheriff of West Baton Rouge Parish, La., is being investigat­ed by state correction­s officials after a state inmate assigned to a parish work-release program was spotted doing unsupervis­ed yard work at the sheriff’s home.

■ Stephan Gollan, a battalion fire chief in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., said a firefighte­r used a rubber glove to grab an iguana so it could be released into the wild after a homeowner “freaked out” when he found the bright green reptile swimming in his toilet.

■ Jason Zang, 57, a police captain in Amarillo, Texas, was arrested and put on leave after investigat­ors said he sent nude photos of his ex-girlfriend to other people without her permission.
