■ Chris Dwyer, a Connecticu­t environmen­tal police sergeant, said tests confirmed that a rabid bobcat jumped on the back of a golfer at a course, who fought it off with a club before the bobcat fled into a culvert at a course in Sprague, where it was found and later killed.

■ Frank Bertoli, an Australian air ambulance pilot, credited a quick-thinking father who fought off several dingoes to save his 14-month-old son as one of the wild dogs dragged the injured boy from their camper-van on Fraser Island in Queensland state.

■ Devin Jones-White, 25, of Detroit said he understood why people might be worried after his 18-foot reticulate­d python escaped from its unlocked pen and crawled up onto the garage roof to get away from barking dogs where it was spotted by dozens of neighbors who posted pictures on social media.

■ Warren Avery, 60, a former jail worker in Lucedale, Miss., pleaded guilty to having sex with an inmate jailed for failing to pay $1,480 in traffic fines and was sentenced to two years in prison, fined $3,000 and ordered to register as a sex offender.

■ Jordyn Freeman, 24, and Randy McMillin, 27, were arrested after being found passed out in a van under the influence of drugs when workers arriving at an IHOP restaurant in Panama City, Fla., spotted their naked toddler wandering in the parking lot, police said.

■ James Wooten, 67, was arrested on a charge of aggravated burglary after a homeowner in Nashville, Tenn., called police when he arrived home to find Wooten sitting naked on a couch drinking juice after he ate some ice cream, investigat­ors said.

■ Ryusuke Sekino, a Japanese baby who weighed just 9 ounces when he was born five months ago, now weighs 7.4 pounds and is being released from the hospital, with his mother, Toshiko Sekino, saying she’s looking forward to giving him a bath at home.

■ Mike Hunley, deputy fire chief in Raytown, Mo., said that helping people is “what we do for a living,” after firefighte­rs freed a fisherman in an electric wheelchair who got stuck in the mud near a neighborho­od pond and then pushed him in his chair seven blocks back home.
