■ Brendan Wiley, director of the Topeka Zoo in Kansas, said a zookeeper who was mauled by a Sumatran tiger suffered laceration­s and puncture wounds in her head, neck and back, and a city spokesman said the attack was witnessed by some zoo patrons.

■ Alvaro Mendez Flores of Richmond, Va., faces grand larceny charges after police said he backed his box truck up to the grease dumpster for a Burger King restaurant and used a hose to siphon used cooking oil, which can be used to make biodiesel fuel.

■ Mary Elizabeth Moore, 34, was charged with child neglect after police in Oklahoma said she starved her children, ages 5 and 3, and fed them dog feces, with authoritie­s saying the siblings are malnourish­ed and have been placed on a special diet with nasal feeding tubes.

■ Brandon Smirnoff, a former investigat­or with the Tallassee Police Department in Alabama, faces up to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to slamming a handcuffed man to the ground multiple times and knocking his head into the side of a patrol vehicle.

■ Iziah Hall, 5, of Wyoming, Mich., called 911 to ask for McDonald’s while his grandmothe­r was sleeping and got his request when officer Dan Patterson picked up food from the restaurant on his way to check on the boy’s home.

■ Dennis Steinman and his wife, Donna, a Kansas couple who share a love for pioneer history, are designing pioneer-style covered wagons that are equipped with king-size beds, electrical outlets and heating and cooling to accommodat­e people interested in “glamping,” or glamour camping.
