Blue Hats & Bunco to raise scholarship funds for Heber Springs campus

-

BEEBE — Blue Hats & Bunco-Ladies Night Out, a new fundraising event to benefit scholarships for the Arkansas State University-Beebe Heber Springs campus, will take place May 30 at the Quality Inn in Heber Springs.

“We have a fun evening planned,” said Brett Graham, president of First Security Bank at Heber Springs and a member of the ASU-Beebe Heber Springs Development Council. “We would like for the women in the community to join us with their best fancy hats, preferably in blue, to help us raise money for a worthy cause — scholarships.”

Bunco will kick off at approximately 7 p.m., with heavy hors d’oeuvres and beverages served at 6 p.m. Registration for the event is $50, which includes bunco, food, prizes and more. Tables will be set up for those who want to play bunco, and silent-auction items will be available for bidding throughout the evening.

“The Blue Hats & Bunco theme is really a Kentucky Derby meets English Royalty,” said Andrea Cole, development officer/Major Gifts for ASU-Beebe.

“Bunco started in England and has become a popular game for many people. It’s fun, and it’s a very social game. We thought the English Royalty flair would be a great complement,” Cole said.

“What a fun night we’re going to have in beautiful Heber Springs, raising money for scholarships — great food and fun, wearing hats and playing bunco,” said Frances Merrell, coordinator of Special Events/ Community Relations for ASU-Beebe.

“We’re working with area businesses that cater particularly to women to provide special shopping opportunities,” Graham said, “such as Aromatique products, Zenatopia mini massages and Golden Girls of Heber Springs apparel.”

Current sponsors for Blue Hats & Bunco are Aromatique, First Security Bank and 101.9 The Lake. Proceeds from the event will support ASU-Beebe student scholarships at the Heber Springs campus.
