–––––❖––––– BETTY W. BAIRD passed away May 18, 2019, at the age of 93. She was a beloved member of the community and a respected businesswo­man.

Betty was born

March 14, 1926,s in North Little

Rock, Arkansas.

She was a graduate of North

Little Rock High

School. She married John Harvey Baird in 1950 and had three children: Roberta, Beverly, and Pete. She was a lifelong member of Christ Episcopal Church.

When John died in 1969, she became President and CEO of the Arkansas Sign & Neon Company, the largest on-premise sign company in Arkansas. She also took over as President of Baird Inc., the largest outdoor advertisin­g company in the state. The operating assets of Baird Inc. were sold to Donrey Media Group in 1976 and Betty then became Chairman of the Board when it transition­ed into a family-owned real estate holding company.

Betty had many civic achievemen­ts during her lifetime. She became the first female President in the Boy Scouts of America when she was elected President of the Quapaw Area Council. She was also honored in the book “Horizons” as one of 100 outstandin­g businesswo­men in Arkansas. She was a member of the Chancellor­s Club of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, 20th Century Club, “Fifty for the Future” organizati­on, National Outdoor Advertisin­g Associatio­n, and the Energy Conservati­on Committee for the State of Arkansas.

Betty sat on numerous boards for many businesses and organizati­ons including Commercial National Bank, First Commercial Bank, UA-Little Rock, Little Rock Chamber of Commerce, Goodwill Industries, United Way of Pulaski County, St. Vincent Hospital Foundation, Little Rock Boys Club, Florence Crittenton Home, and Ada Thompson Memorial Home.

Betty also had many personal interests, especially golf. She was a member of the Country Club of Little Rock, and for decades she played golf every Tuesday and bridge once a month with her friends. She was also known for her graciousne­ss and sharp wit.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband, John Harvey Baird, parents, Hazel and L.N. White, and son-in-law, Bob C. Coleman Sr. She is survived by her three children, Roberta Ward (Phil), Beverly Coleman, and Peter Baird (Becky). She is also survived by four grandchild­ren, Bob Coleman (Sarah), Steven Ward (Chelsea), John Baird (Ann), and Michael Baird (Lauren), and two great-grandchild­ren (Addison and Brady Ward). She is also survived by her long-time friend and business partner, John Schlereth.

The family wishes to express special thanks to the staff of the Ginny and Bob Shell Alzheimer’s Unit. Graveside service will be at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at Roselawn Cemetery for close friends and family, with a memorial at Christ Episcopal Church to follow at 10:30 a.m., with a reception afterwards. Mrs. Baker was a member of Bible

Baptist Church in Jacksonvil­le. She accepted the Lord as her Savior on September 11, 1975. Mrs. Baker served as a church and ministry secretary since 1980.

She was preceded in death by her parents. Left to cherish her memory, her husband of 63 years, Billy J. Baker; children, Angela (Richard) Frazier and Dianna (Steven) Green; five grandchild­ren; and eight great-grandchild­ren.

The Reverend WILLIAM PAYNE “DUB” FISER, 94, departed this earthly life on Saturday, May 18, 2019 in Little Rock under the care of Hospice.

Dub was born July 31, 1924, in Sweet Home, Pulaski County, Arkansas to Robert

Payne Fiser and

Mable Esther Dixon Fiser. During his senior year at Fuller High

School, Japan bombed Pearl

Harbor and the

United States declared war.

Dub enlisted in the Army Air Corp in the summer of 1942 after his 18th birthday and was trained first as an aircraft mechanic and then as a Cadet for pilot training. He completed training as a B-24 pilot and was then moved to B-29’s. He was stationed in El Paso, Texas and was standing outside on the flight line early one morning in July 1945 when he saw a huge flash in the Northern sky, the first test of an atomic bomb.

After the war he returned to Sweet Home and tried farming with his father but the boll weevils destroyed their crops two years in a row so he sought other work. He married Golma Irene Daniel on Dec 18, 1948, and they eloped to Benton. He went to work for his uncle Paul Dixon and Harold Balios at Dixon Dairy where he started with delivering milk and then graduated to working in the business office. He had a religious conversion and was called to become a Methodist Minister, attending college at what is now UALR while continuing to work at Dixon Dairy including loading milk trucks at 4 a.m. Golma and Dub’s only child, William Payne Fiser Jr., was born February 18, 1953. Dub attended seminary at SMU Perkins School of Theology in a nontraditi­onal pathway going to summer school for 6 years which meant moving to Dallas every summer. Dub officially became Reverend Fiser in 1958 and was fully ordained in 1964.

During his ministry Dub served many churches, including Brasfield on Cache River; Pride Valley, now Highland Valley; the Hickory Plains Circuit which included Hickory Plains, Johnson Chapel, Cross Roads, Hebron, Old Austin, Bethlehem, and Providence; Tigert in Hot Springs, including Fountain Lake and Morning Star; Elaine, including Mellwood and Wabash Federated Church; Wesley in Springdale, including Mt. Hebron; Rosewood in West Memphis; St. Paul in Jonesboro, including Mount Carmel; and Trinity in North Little Rock. After retiring he served as visitation minister at St. Paul in Little Rock.

Dub was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Golma Irene Daniel Fiser, who passed away in 2010, Georgia Mae Russenberg­er, his wife who passed away in 2015, his parents, and his younger brother, Thomas Edwin Fiser. Dub’s legacy will be cherished by his son, William Payne Fiser Jr. MD and wife Gina; his three grandchild­ren, Rachel Fiser Klotzman and husband Spencer in Victoria, Texas, Christian Cole Fiser and wife Amber in Little Rock, and Elizabeth Payne Fiser in Rogers; his three great-grandchild­ren, Eliza Claire Klotzman, Christian Cole Fiser Jr. and Hollis Claire Fiser; his two younger sisters, Margaret Elizabeth Langston and Esther May Poulin; and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2019 from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Roller-Chenal Funeral home on Chenal Parkway. The funeral service and burial will be held on Friday, May 24, 2019 at 10 a.m. at Primrose United Methodist Church on Dixon Road. Pallbearer­s will be Cole Fiser, Spencer Klotzman, David Fiser, Lance Schmidt, Brad Daniel, Austin Calhoun, John Wayne Daniel (honorary), John Scott Daniel (honorary), Harold Balios (honorary), and Drew Illing (honorary). L. Horn Sr and

Zolia Babbs Horn.

He was preceded in death by his sister Dana Horn Wilkerson Duncan.

He was a graduate of Little Rock Central High School and Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas. He was longtime employee of Aetna Insurance Company and also worked for the US Social Security Administra­tion.

He is survived by his niece, Tanya Wilkerson of Tampa, Fla., and cousins Junious and Floretta Babbs of Little Rock, Vic and Jade Bolton of Atlanta, Ga., Annice Russell of Dallas, Texas, and Carolyn Kirksey of Omaha, Nebraska.

JOHN DAVID MARK, 81, of Jacksonvil­le, passed away on May 14th, 2019. He was born to parents Ruth and John Charles Mark on February 27th, 2018. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife: Nancy; daughter: Kym Phillips; two grandchild­ren: Hunter and Chase (Rea Cole) Roberts; and one great-granddaugh­ter: Journey Cole. Sr., his dog, Link and many aunts and uncles. Jim is survived by cousins, B. Jeffery Pence, George “Sandy” Pence of Memphis, and Mary Alice Irby of Macon, Georgia.

He graduated from Little Rock Senior High School where he was President of his fraternity and attended the University of Arkansas where he was pledge master of Pi Kappa Alpha until he and several fraternity brothers left school for World War II. He was a bombardier on aB 24 and flew 34 bombing missions over Europe, taking flak on each mission. During those bombing missions in the Army Air Corps, he was never injured. Jim retired as a Major in the Air Force Reserve.

After returning home to Little Rock, Jim never flew on a commercial flight, thinking he had used up all his luck. He then returned to college at Washington University in St. Louis to study architectu­re and was President of his fraternity there.

Coming back to Little Rock, he worked with IKElectric and Moses Melody Shop, where he sold records, record players and stereos to most of the kids in Little Rock. After Moses closed, Jim finished his career at Mary’s Music Shop in the Heights. He designed his home in the Heights in 1953 where he lived the rest of his life. He never married, but came close a few times.

Jim was very artistical­ly talented. His hobbies included listening to operas and classical music, ceramics, art, painting, china painting, creating many items in his kiln, reading, participat­ing and teaching Tai Chi. He was a 32nd degree Mason, Shriner and a member of the Blue Lodge. Jim was raised a Methodist, and belonged to St. Luke United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir and participat­ed in all church activities. He was a voracious reader, was well read on most subjects, and had a very frank and straight forward opinion on most subjects. Jim was very independen­t and was conservati­ve in his views. He was loved by friends and family.

Services will be Thursday, May 23 at 10 a.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.), officiated by Rev. Andrea Cummings. Visitation will precede the service beginning at 9 a.m. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
