Walmart to offer private-label tablets

-

Walmart Inc.’s private-label tablet computers are coming to stores this week and will soon be available online, the Bentonville retailer said Monday.

A Walmart spokesman said inventory of the new Onn tablets “is just flowing in,” so an online check of availability at a specific store may show the item as low in stock or out of stock, “but inventory will come in soon.”

The tablets come in three sizes: an 8-inch tablet, which sells for $64; a 10.1-inch model priced at $79; and a 10.1-inch model with a detachable keyboard for $99. All models use Android 9 “Pie,” the latest version of Google’s mobile operating system. They also have 2 gigabytes of RAM with 16 gigabytes of internal storage plus a memory card slot.

Walmart’s app suite comes pre-installed on the devices, the spokesman said. It includes the Walmart Mobile App, Walmart Grocery, Sam’s Club, Walmart eBooks and Walmart-owned streaming service Vudu. The tablet also is pre-loaded with the Google app suite.

Filings with the Federal Communications Commission show that the tablet was developed by Chunghsin Technology Group Co. Ltd., a Chinese maker of consumer electronics.
