2nd annual Saline County Library Con coming to Herzfeld branch Saturday

-

BENTON — The Saline County Library will host its second annual comic con, or SCL Con, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, offering fun for all ages. There is no admission cost.

For one day only, attendees can immerse themselves in a comic-book universe at the Bob Herzfeld Memorial Library and take part in such activities as getting lightsaber lessons from a certain Jedi or competing in an escape room with their closest adult friends.

Kids ages 6 to 10 can sign up at the children’s desk upon arrival to hang out and play games with characters from a galaxy far, far away. Twenty-five kids will be admitted at two times: 10:30 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. Participants will get to meet Scavenger, Imperial Knight and their favorite droid and get photos.

Adults can participate in an escape room with groups of their choosing at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. or 1 p.m. Sign up upon arrival to get a spot. Dave and Buster’s will provide prizes for the fastest group.

ArkLUG will be downstairs with its full LEGO display, which participants can add their own creation to. The Makerspace will feature rotating crafts, as well as a green screen. Attendees will have an opportunity to get their photos taken in front of the green screen with a choice of two backgrounds and have that photo printed.

The teen area will have games going on all day for all ages, so stop in and play a few rounds of the mystery card game, Werewolf and other games. Local vendors will sell crafts, art, toys and more. Payment methods will vary between vendors. Some will allow cash only.

Lunch will be served at noon in the meeting room. Kum & Go will serve pizzas, and the library will grill hot dogs. The Arkansas Symphony will perform, and HealthCARE Express Bryant will set up a photo booth to document visitors’ comic con fun.

Last year, SCL Con was a huge hit for the library.

“After the event, we had several people ask us to host a comic con more than once a year,” Library Director Patty Hector said. “We knew we had to make this an annual event that got bigger and better each year.”

So all are invited to grab their best costumes and embrace their geeky side with the library.
