Arkansas achievers
Yanbin Li, distinguished professor of biological and agricultural engineering, was recognized for his contributions to food safety at an international meeting of biological and agricultural engineers in July. Li, who is also holder of the Tyson Endowed Chair in Biosensing Engineering for the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture and UA’s College of Engineering, earned the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers’ 2019 International Food Engineering award for his outstanding contributions to the development of new biosensing and biomodeling technologies for improving food safety. Li was honored for his advances in biosensing technology for the rapid detection of pathogenic bacteria and viruses.
Danial Bin Azizan Durisic of Little Rock has been named a 2018-19 Srixon/Cleveland Golf Division I All-America Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America. Durisic had another strong year for the Trojans, posting a 73.42 scoring average in nine events played with eight rounds at par or better, highlighted by his career-best 5-under 66. Durisic finished ninth at the Little Rock Invitational for his third career top-10 finish, shooting a season-low 3-under 213 at the Lake Charles Toyota Invitational.
Suleima Gomez of Belleville is the 2019-20 recipient of the Ashcraft Nursing Scholarship. This scholarship is for current University of Central Arkansas BSN Level III students from an underrepresented minority (racial, ethnic, and/or gender) in good academic standing.
Emma French of Vilonia is the 2019-20 recipient of the Crystal V. Crawford Nursing Scholarship Award. This scholarship endowment was established by Chris and Kim Fowler in honor of their daughter, Crystal V. Crawford, for the purpose of providing scholarship aid to nursing students at UCA.
Madison Pierce of Jonesboro has been selected as the 2019-20 recipient of the Clara M. Forsberg Nursing Scholarship. The scholarship is for a junior or senior nursing student who is enrolled full time in required nursing courses, in good academic standing and who demonstrates high professional standards. Pierce attends UCA.
Haley Hooper of Conway has been selected as the 201920 recipient of the Suzanne Harvey Graduate Nursing Scholarship. This scholarship endowment was established by Suzanne Harvey’s husband, Dr. David Harvey, and the family of Mrs. Harvey in her memory. Hooper attends UCA.
Amelia Wright of Greenbrier has been selected to receive the Linda Vail Holbert Nursing Scholarship for the 2019-20 academic year. The scholarship is for a junior or senior nursing student enrolled full time in required nursing courses and in good academic standing. In addition, it recognizes nursing students who demonstrate high professional standards, meaningful engagement in learning activities and quality nursing care. Wright attends UCA.
Lauren Trickey of Conway is the 2019-20 recipient of the Lauretta Koenigseder Nursing Scholarship Award. The scholarship is for a junior or senior nursing student who is enrolled full time in required nursing courses, in good academic standing and who demonstrates quality nursing care and professionalism. Trickey attends UCA.
Savannah Riddell of Conway has been selected as the 2019-20 recipient of the Betty Martin Nursing Scholarship. This scholarship was established in memory of Dr. Betty Martin, who was chair of UCA School of Nursing for a number of years. The scholarship is for a junior or senior nursing student who is enrolled full time in required nursing courses, in good academic standing, and demonstrates high academic and professional standards. Riddell attends UCA.
Sarah Williams of Benton is the 2019 recipient of the School of Nursing Outstanding Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Student Award. The recognition is awarded to the DNP student who faculty and other Awards Committee members believe has assumed leadership roles and demonstrates the greatest potential for becoming a leader within professional nursing. Williams attends UCA.
Kaitlin Johnson of Bryant is the 2019 recipient of the Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award. The recognition is awarded to the senior nursing student who faculty and other seniors believe has assumed leadership roles and demonstrates the greatest potential for becoming a leader within professional nursing. Johnson attends UCA.
Jeremy Duncan of Quitman is the 2019 Level III recipient of the Undergraduate Clinical Excellence Award. Ashley Mezel of Sherwood is the 2019 Level IV recipient. The Undergraduate Clinical Excellence recognition is awarded to a Level III and a Level IV nursing student who demonstrates exceptional clinical performance. Both attend UCA.
Sara Chavis-Howard and Rachel Basham, both of Maumelle, are the 2019 recipients of the School of Nursing Undergraduate Academic Excellence Award. Both attend UCA.
Arkansas Achievers is an opportunity to give recognition to Arkansans for their achievements.
