Saxophone quartet to open series
BEEBE — Arkansas State University-Beebe will present the Arkansas Saxophone Quartet in concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Owen Center Theater on the Beebe campus.
The Saxophone Quartet will open the college’s 20192020 Lecture-Concert Series of programs for the year. This will be a free event; however, tickets are required for seating management. Tickets are available at www.asub.ticketleap.com.
The ASU-Beebe concert coincides with the Arkansas Saxophone Quartet celebrating its 12th anniversary season. The members of the quartet are Matthew Taylor of the University of Central Arkansas, soprano saxophone; Caroline Taylor of Ouachita Baptist University, alto saxophone; Brent Bristow, Arkansas State UniversityBeebe, tenor saxophone; and Jackie Lamar of UCA, retired, baritone saxophone.
The ensemble plays selections ranging from transcriptions to avant-garde contemporary music. This season’s program includes works by Franz Liszt, Maurice Ravel, Jean Absil and Jonathan Leshnoff.
The Arkansas Saxophone Quartet has performed at the North American Saxophone Alliance Conferences in Columbia, South Carolina; Columbia, Missouri; Huntsville, Texas; Champaign-Urbana, Illinois; Lubbock, Texas; and Stillwater, Oklahoma.
The group has also given multiple performances at the U.S. Navy Band International Saxophone Symposium in Fairfax, Virginia, and was featured at the Conference on Arts and Humanties in Honolulu and the World Saxophone Congress in St. Andrews, Scotland.
