TODAY White County Iris Society Meeting
SEARCY — The White County Iris Society will meet at 2 p.m. at 605 E. Race Ave. in Searcy. Robert Treadway, hybridizer and former regional vice president of the American Iris Society, will present the program on dealing with iris diseases. Everyone is invited to attend.

Connecting With Craft MOUNTAIN VIEW— Connecting With Craft is a free event, Monday through Friday, in conjunction with American Craft Week. Cabot Public Schools Hall of Fame Banquet CABOT — The Cabot Public Schools’ 10th annual Hall of Fame Banquet, sponsored by the cabot Panther Foundation, will begin at 6 p.m. in the Junior High School North Cafeteria. The guest speaker will be Rick Lowe, an SEC official, and the master of ceremonies will be Hayden Balgavy of THV11 TV. The 2019 honorees are Sarah True Brown, Col. William “Bill” Kehler, Steve Jackson and The Honorable Eddie Joe Williams. Tickets are $25 each or $200 for a table for eight. Soup Luncheon and Bake Sale
NEWPORT — The Newport Newcomers Club will host its annual Soup Luncheon and Bake Sale from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center, 619 Second St. Meals will be available to dine in or take out. Donations are appreciated to help support the Arkansas Center for Independence, the Newport Backpack Program and the Jackson County Humane Society. All are invited to attend the luncheon.

Retired Teachers Meeting BATESVILLE — The Independence County Retired Teachers Association will meet at 11:30 a.m. at Colton’s Steakhouse and Grill, 1553 S. DRASCO — The Combat Vet Motorcycle Association will offer a free lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Drasco Trading Post. Ice, drinks, paper plates and napkins will be provided, so the needed items are burgers, hot dogs, buns, chips and dessert items, such as brownies, etc. All are invited to attend, eat and be appreciated.
Ghosts of Davidsonville Fall Festival
POCAHONTAS — Davidsonville Historic State Park, 8047 Arkansas 166 S. (a 15-minute drive south of Pocahontas) will present its Ghosts of Davidsonville Fall Festival from 5-9 p.m. The Ghosts of Davidsonville will stir from their graves and walk the land for a single night. Entrance to the festival is free, with food, merchandise, crafts and haunted hayrides all available for purchase by cash only. Hayrides cost $2 for ages 12 and younger and $4 for ages 13 and older. Kids are encouraged to dress up in costume and bring their trickor-treat bags to collect candy. A classic Halloween movie will be shown. For more information, call the park at (870) 892-4708.

Ozarka College Scholarship Opportunity MELBOURNE — Ozarka College will award a new scholarship beginning in fall 2019. Donor BancorpSouth will fund one $500 scholarship annually, with the recipient receiving $250 each semester. To apply, students must be full time, be Izard County residents, demonstrate a financial need, have at least a 2.5 grade-point average and have received a high school diploma or GED.
