Overnight closings planned for lanes of I-630, Barrow Road

-

Work on the $87.4 million project to widen a section of Interstate 630 in west Little Rock will disrupt overnight traffic on the interstate and John Barrow Road for parts of the next two weeks, the Arkansas Department of Transportation said.

The middle and outside lanes of I-630 in both directions between South University Avenue and Baptist Health Drive will be alternately closed from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Wednesday and from Dec. 2 to Dec. 7, weather permitting.

The lane closings will allow worker to clean and paint the bridges at John Barrow Road and South Hughes Street. Traffic will be controlled using signs and barrels, but the department suggested drivers use alternate routes to avoid delays.

The outside lanes of John Barrow Road will be closed from the I-630 overpass north to Cloverhill Road from 7 p.m., to 6 a.m. daily starting Sunday and continuing through Wednesday, weather permitting, to accommodate paving operations.

One lane of traffic will remain open in both directions. The westbound on- and offramps also will remain open, but crews will be working on the ramp pavement, the department said. Flagging operations will be used to direct traffic around the pavement work.

The work is part of a project to widen a 2.2-mile section of I-630 between South University Avenue and Interstate 430 to eight lanes from six. The project is estimated to be complete in early 2020.
