School election results certified

-

The Pulaski County Election Commission has certified the results of the Nov. 5 school elections, including those from the one contested school board race in the Pulaski County Special School District.

In that race for the Zone 1 position, challenger Stephen Delaney received 49 votes, defeating board incumbent Mike Kemp who received 34 votes. Zone 1 encompasses west and southwest parts of the district, including part of Shannon Hills and territory along Lawson Road.

In North Little Rock, unopposed incumbent board member Dorothy Williams received 35 votes for her reelection.

Also in the Nov. 5 election, voters in the Pulaski County Special, Little Rock and North Little Rock districts had the opportunity to vote on the current millage rates in their school systems. None of the districts sought a change in the tax rates, but the rates are required by law to be on the annual school election ballot regardless of whether a change is proposed.

A negative or positive vote tally on a district’s tax measure is considered a gauge of public support for the district.

In this year’s election, the voting results favored the tax rates.

In Little Rock, the certified vote for the district’s 46.4-mill tax rate was 174-111.

In the Pulaski County Special district, the vote for the 40.7-mill tax rate was 102-96. In North Little Rock, the vote for the 48.3-mill tax rate was 26-24.
