Area Christmas parades scheduled for early December
Santa Claus will be making the rounds soon in the River
Valley & Ozark Edition readership area. Parades — some with themes, some not — are planned in many of the towns and cities.
This is the first year CryeLeike Realtors has organized the Maumelle Christmas parade, and organizers hope to raise money from parade-entry fees to benefit a special charity. This year’s theme is Hometown Christmas.
“We chose Special Olympics because the Arkansas Realtors Association is a big advocate for Special Olympics, and we wanted to help with the fundraising for that great organization,” said Gloria Mayo, real estate agent with the Maumelle Branch of Crye-Leike.
“There were about 20 entries in last year’s parade,” she said. “We hope to exceed that this year. Currently, we have city officials, including the mayor, police chief and fire department, represented. Other entries are area churches, area businesses, a Little League team, a youth football team and an antique-car club. Most entries will be tossing candy to the spectators.”
Mayo said spectators will line up along Club Manor Road to view the parade, which will begin at 3 p.m. Dec. 7. The start of the parade will be at Club Manor and Millwood.
“There is still time to register,” Mayo said. “A $35 check made out to Special Olympics of Arkansas, along with your completed registration form, is all that’s needed.
“The organization for the parade is a team effort of our Crye-Leike Cares team at our office.”
