A successful outcome
Our House fundraiser to help the less fortunate among us
Shayla Porch and her three children, Brookelynn, Braylen and Crystal, were honored Dec. 6 with the Resilient Family of the Year award at Home for the Holidays. The event by Our House was held at the Albert Pike Masonic Center.
The honor included an educational award that will provide scholarships for the children. The award is given to an Our House client who best exemplifies hard work, wise decision-making and community participation.
Our House is a Little Rock nonprofit organization dedicated, as its mission statement states, to “empower homeless and near-homeless families and individuals to succeed in the workforce, in school, and in life …”
The center was transformed for the festivities with tall white Christmas trees, gold and red balloons, and tall gold vases filled with white and red flowers. White lounge furniture and white covered guest tables filled the expansive dining room.
The evening began with a reception where guests enjoyed a large buffet and drinks and bidding on silent auction items. The program included a live auction and music.
Event chairmen were Lisa and Dr. David Jones and Laura and Dr. Doug Borg.
