Women in film awards announced
The Alliance of Women Film Journalists’ 13th annual *EDA Awards has chosen Parasite as the best film of 2019.
The awards are made in 25 categories divided into three sections: Best of, Female Focus and Special Mention. Nominees in each category are determined by 92 AWFJ members (I’m one of them) who submit nominating ballots.
Best-of awards (presented to women and men without gender consideration):

Best Actor in a Supporting Role: Brad Pitt, Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood
Best Ensemble Cast: Little Women (casting directors Kathy Driscoll and Francine Maisler)
Best Cinematography: 1917, Roger Deakins
Best Editing: The Irishman, Thelma Schoonmaker
Best Non-English-Language Film: Parasite

Outstanding Achievement by A Woman in The Film Industry: Ava DuVernay for creating Array, a grassroots distribution, arts and advocacy collective focused on films by people of color and women, and for championing women in film

Bravest Performance: Aisling Franciosi, The Nightingale
Actress Most in Need Of A New Agent: Anne Hathaway, The

Most Egregious Lovers’ Age Difference Award: The Public — Emilio Estevez (57) and Taylor Schilling (35)
Remake or Sequel That Shouldn’t Have Been Made: Charlie’s Angels
AWFJ Hall of Shame Award: Hollywood Foreign Press Association for excluding women nominees in major Golden Globe categories.
*The EDA awards are named in honor of AWFJ founder Jennifer Merin’s mother, Eda Reiss Merin, a stage, film and television actress whose career spanned more than 60 years.
