George enjoyed Razorback sports, hunting, fishing, traveling, and gardening. He was an author, an expert wood worker and he loved a good game of golf. He most enjoyed any activity his grandchildren participated in and was present and cheering them on. He loved to host big family dinners and was an excellent cook. He learned to cook well while tenderly caring for his late wife. He showed all of his children how to love selflessly.

George grew up in Carlisle, Ark., working hard on the rice farm. He earned both his bachelor and master’s degrees from the University of Arkansas.

George’s professional work was with the U of A extension service. Some of his jobs titles were northeast Arkansas area agronomist, cotton verification specialist, assistant county agent, and Staff Chairman for Pulaski County. He also proudly served in the Arkansas National Guard with posts in Jonesboro, Harrisburg and Camp Robinson. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.

George was also active with 4 H, the Farm Bureau and was the president for Pulaski County and was the State Fair Director.

George faithfully attended the Sylvan Hills church of Christ serving as an elder, teacher, song leader, deaf ministry preacher, and mission chair. He was passionate about missions and went on trips to Cuba, Mexico, Russia, Jamaica and more. He loved the Lord with all his heart and he lived out his faith daily. He was quick to help anyone in need and enjoyed getting the coffee ready for the weekly men’s devotionals. He was well known for his chocolate pies which he delivered to the sick or bereaved.

Family was also of utmost importance to our dad. He enjoyed Razorback football with us and took us on some great trips covering much of the US. We have fond memories of fishing and camping trips and dad’s uncanny ability to never get lost. He was quick witted and had some funny sayings and he loved a good laugh. He will leave quite a hole behind as he was a hero to us.

The family would like to thank the staff at Foxridge Assisted Living and Hospice for their excellent care of our father.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., Friday, February 28th at Sylvan Hills Church of Christ, 117 W. Maryland, Sherwood. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m., Saturday, February 29th at the church with burial following at Rest Hills Memorial Park.
