Star-studded soiree
Ivy Ball celebrants help fund scholarships with dining, dancing and auction
“A Night Among the Stars” was the theme of the silver-anniversary Ivy Ball, presented by the Ivy Foundation of Little Rock in partnership with the Beta Pi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. The event, chaired by Rosalyn Middleton and co-chaired by Briana Davis, was Feb. 15 in the ballroom of the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel in Little Rock and drew a bountiful crowd.
Guests joined sorority and foundation members in wearing the suggested colors of black, silver and pink. A raffle and silent auction started the evening, which also included dinner featuring chicken caponata. Tjuana Byrd, foundation president, and Katrina Owoh, Beta Pi Omega president, teamed up to welcome guests and recognize the smattering of political officeholders and candidates present.
The event culminated in dancing to R&B, oldies and blues — played by the band SynRG. Jason Talbert kept the people well entertained with his super-energetic vocals and dance moves. And, as usual, it was the line-dance music that filled the floor.
Helping convey the evening’s theme was a collection of silver, star-shaped plaques on display … fundraising plaques bought in honor of those whose names were read during the short program.
Event proceeds benefit the foundation, which promotes and funds scholarships along with community service, education and cultural programs implemented by the Beta Pi Omega Chapter. Proceeds from the Ivy Ball and other programs will enable the foundation to provide more than $20,000 in scholarships to students in Central Arkansas.
