JAMES “JIMMY” JOHNSTON,

-

88, of Sherwood, Ark., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 7, 2020. Jimmy was born in Chickasha, Okla., to James Pierce Johnston and Mary Westmoreland-Johnston on Sept. 9, 1931. Jimmy moved to North Little Rock, Ark., at an early age. He married the love of his life, Catherine Holt on Sept. 17, 1953. Jimmy and Catherine had one son, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, whom they are extremely proud of. Jimmy was saved on Aug. 1, 1954 and was an active member of Sylvan Hills First Baptist Church. Jimmy graduated NLRHS in 1950 and attended UALR at night while working full time. He received his Bachelors in Accounting in 1962. After working at Timex for 18 years, he retired from Atlantic Research Corporation after a faithful 19 years, in 1999. He loved being outdoors with his family; camping, playing tennis, playing volleyball and traveling the world. He was a die-hard Arkansas Razorback and Dallas Cowboys fan. If they were playing, he was watching!

Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents; Aunt Hazel Evans (Jack), Aunt Jeanie Bruton (Bob). Jimmy leaves behind his wife Catherine; his son Jeffrey (Marsha); grandchildren, Kristy, Kelsey (Caleb) and Dillion (Adriane); and great-grandchildren, Kyler, Jase and Annelise, and many, many more dearly loved family members and friends.

The Johnston family would like to send a huge “Thank you” to DaVita, Carrie Brocchus and Hospice for caring for Jimmy in his recent years.

Due to the circumstances, the service will be private. At a later date, we will announce a celebration of life to honor Jimmy. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that you make a donation in Jimmy’s honor to Arkansas Rice Depot, Arkansas Food Bank or the Humane Society. An extended obituary is available at www.smithfamilycares.com.
