Give the boy a shield

-

AS OUR eyeballs scanned across an endless sea of headlines about covid-19 and whatever supposed stimulus spending is coming next, there arose the story of a hero. A little boy in Wyoming had jumped in to save his baby sister from a vicious dog attack. And this story just continues to get more incredible by the day.

The boy is 6-year-old Bridger Walker. And here’s what he told his father when the man asked his son about jumping into action: “If someone had to die, I thought it should be me.”

Young Mr. Walker ended up needing a two-hour surgery and 90 stitches to his face. Those are scars he’ll likely carry with him the rest of his life.

Some of the people who play heroes on the big screen are taking notice of this real-life hero, like Captain America. Chris Evans sent a video message to the boy. Here’s what he said:

“Captain America here. So I read your story, I saw what you did, and I’m sure you heard a lot of this over the last couple days, but let me be the next one to tell you, pal, you’re a hero. What you did was so brave, so selfless. Your sister is so lucky to have you as a big brother. Your parents must be so proud of you. I’m going to track down your address, and I’m going to send you an authentic Captain America shield because, pal. You deserve it.”

If that wasn’t enough, Catwoman chimed in too, writing: “I’m not an Avenger, but I know a superhero when I see one. I can only hope I’m half as brave in my life as you are in yours, Bridger. Wishing you an easeful recovery, and many cool looking rocks.”

Who says the papers only print bad news? Best wishes on your recovery, Super Bridger. Hope you enjoy that shield when it arrives.
