PINE BLUFF — Jodel Adams Standley

-

Thank you, Dear Father in Heaven for giving my brother and me, the most loving and remarkable Mother that anyone could ever wish for.

Jodel Adams Standley, 99, of Pine Bluff, entered Heaven on August 19, 2020. She was born on July 25, 1921. She was the daughter of Winnie Myrtle Pierce and Jess Adrian Adams. Jodel and her brother Bo were primarily raised by their mother supported by a large extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins after the untimely death of their father when Jodel was only three years old.

She graduated from high school at the age of sixteen and immediately entered nursing school at St. John’s School of Nursing in Springfield, Mo. Jodel found the passion of her life in taking care of others. After graduation she moved to Pine Bluff, Ark., in 1942 with her husband, Adelbert B. Standley.

Jodel started her nursing career at Davis Hospital in 1946. She worked at Davis and Jefferson Regional Medical Center for 40 years where she helped thousands of healthy young babies enter our world. Most of her career was in the Labor and Delivery Department, which she dearly loved. She retired in 1986 and came to live with her daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter. She spent many years taking care of her family and we marveled at her stamina and youthful attitude.

Survivors include her daughter, Anne Standley Smithey and son-inlaw, Robert F. (Bob) Smithey, with whom she lived 33 years; her son, John Lawrence (Larry) Standley (Sheila); three grandchildren, Benjamin Clayton Standley, Adrianne Smithey Bennett (Stephen) and Daniel Lawrence Standley (Mandy); five great-grandchildren, Tucker Standley, Katie Standley, Gavin Bennett, Sloane Standley, and Chloe Standley.

“She was someone special, she was a nurse.”

The family will hold a private service at a later date.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 6501 S. Hazel Street, Pine Bluff, Ark., 71603 or charity of your choice.

Arrangements were by Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Directors. Online condolences and video messages may be left for the family at www.RalphRobinsonandSon.com.
