KAY WOOD RADCLIFFE PETERSON

was born in Little Rock, Ark., in 1927 to J.V. Radcliffe, founder of Peerless Engraving Co., and Katherine Wood Radcliffe, a commercial artist. Kay was a graduate of Little Rock (Central) High School in 1945.

She was a member of the Quill and Scroll Society, an artist for the high school annual, and a member of Delta Beta Sigma Sorority. In 1947 she married Elvin H. Peterson, a photo-engraver at Peerless Engraving who later became Vice President. They had three children and remained married for 38 years until the time of his death in 1985.

Kay was a Girl Scout leader in the 1950s and a volunteer at the Fair Park School in the RUN (Reading Understand­ing Now) program. Kay and Elvin were members of the Oak Forest Promenader­s Square Dance Club. During the integratio­n crisis in 1957 she was an activist in bringing about racial equality. In the 1960s, Kay was a volunteer for the Red Cross at the V.A. Hospital and St. Vincent’s Infirmary. She was a volunteer artist and auxiliary member of OIC (Opportunit­ies Industrial­ization Center). She sold her arts and crafts at the Arkansas Territoria­l Museum gift shop, and developed collage cards that were sold in Little Rock and Dallas.

She is survived by a daughter, Dana Euler, of Durham, N.C.; and one son, Jim Peterson (Gretchen) of Dallas, Texas; and her friend, Samuel Crook.
