GREENVILLE, S.C. — Harriet Stockley Barnett,

81, of Greenville, South Carolina, formerly of Crossett, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 29, 2020. Harriet was born on October 16, 1939, in Memphis, Tenn., to Temple and Jake Stockley. She graduated from Mariana High School in 1957, then went on to attend Memphis State University, where she received a BA in music education along with a MA in music. Upon graduation from Memphis State, she taught elementary school in Gary, Ind., Memphis, Tenn., Puerto Rico, Mechanicsb­urg, Penn., and Hot Springs. Harriet remained in Hot Springs until she met Billy Barnett and married on June 17, 1971. She relocated to Crossett, where she taught special education for ten years before becoming a homemaker and church pianist. Harriet continued to play both the piano and the organ for St. Mark’s Episcopal Church of Crossett and First United Methodist Church of Crossett. After Billy’s death, Harriet remained in Crossett for ten years before relocating to Greenville, S.C., to be near her daughter. Harriet enjoyed being a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, Crossett Book Club, Blue Stockings Book Club, and Christ Episcopal Church of Greenville, South Carolina.

She is preceded in death by her husband Billy Barnett in 2000 and her parents, Temple and Jake Stockley.

She is survived by her son, James Bradley Davis and wife, Lonni Welch Davis, along with their children, Reeves, Walker and Mabry of Hamburg; her daughter, Elizabeth Temple Langston husband, Tim Langston, and their children, Addison and Barnett of Greenville, S.C.; her sister, Sally Stockley Johnson and her brother, Griffin Jasper Stockley both of Little Rock and four step children and their families.

Graveside services are 2 p.m., Saturday, November 21, 2020 in Pinewood Memorial Park with Gene Crawford officiatin­g.
