James Franklin “Mac” McLellan III,
66, of Fayetteville, formerly of Pine Bluff, died Thursday, December 10, 2020.
He was born March 16, 1954, in Pine Bluff, son of James Franklin “Jim” McLellan Jr. and
Shirley Hutson McLellan.
Mac was reared and received his early education in Pine Bluff, graduating from Pine Bluff High School in 1972. He earned his Bachelors Degree in Biology from Southwestern at Memphis (now Rhodes College) in 1976. While attending Southwestern he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity and he graduated with Distinction. He attended graduate school at Virginia Tech and at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.
He worked riverboats on the Arkansas and Mississippi Rivers. Mac conducted DNA research at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for two years and taught high school Biology in Helena, Arkansas. He taught Botany Labs at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. Mac also worked for Walmart for the last 17 years.
Mac was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church in Pine Bluff. He loved thoroughbred racing, gardening, cooking and reading. Mac was also very mechanical and could fix anything. He enjoyed watching sports, politics, and movies on television and listening to all kinds of music.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife Dana Dawson McLellan; brother, Jerry McLellan and his wife, Dr. Mary Robbins, of Florence, Alabama; sister, Margaret McLellan of Little Rock; sister-in-law, Robin Banks Dawson of Pine Bluff; nieces and nephews, Katie McLellan, Alexandria McLellan, Andy Smith and Mollie Mae Henager.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at Graceland Cemetery in Pine Bluff with Dr. John Landis officiating by Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Directors.
