HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men’s basketball team led for most of the game, but lost the lead late in a 56-55 defeat at Alabama A&M on Monday night.

UAPB started out the scoring by going on an 8-0 run to take an early lead with 16:55 left in the first half. The Golden Lions then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 25-21 advantage.

UAPB kept its lead intact before going on a 5-0 run, finished off by Markedric Bell’s three, to grow the lead to 34-25 with 15:51 to go in the contest.

However, Alabama A&M chipped away to take the lead and led to three ties in the final 5 minutes, the last time at 52-52 with 1:40 to play on a pair of Doss free throws.

After an Alabama A&M basket, Doss drilled a 3-pointer with 53 seconds to play to give the Golden Lions a 55-54 lead.

However, an Alabama A&M basket with 20 seconds to play gave the Alabama team the lead for good, as UAPB could not convert on its final two possessions of the game.
