PRAIRIE VIEW A&M 72, UAPB 56

The University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff (3-18, 2-10 Southwestern Athletic Conference) shot 42% from the floor Tuesday, but it wasn’t enough to stop Jawaun Daniels’ game-high 26 points and 14 rebounds for Prairie View A&M (9-4, 8-0) at the William Nicks Building in Prairie View, Texas.

The Panthers scored the first seven points of the game and quickly built a 16-4 lead after a three-pointer from Jeremiah Gambrell. The lead grew to 21-4 after Daniels made a layup off a UAPB turnover.

The Golden Lions chipped into the lead and trailed by nine late in the first half after a Dequan Morris layup, but the Panthers got a layup from Lenell Henry with seven seconds left to give them a 35-24 halftime lead. Prairie View A&M maintained a double-digit lead for much of the second half.

The Panthers outrebounded the Golden Lions 33-26 and held a 44-30 scoring advantage in the lane. UAPB also committed 19 turnovers, but outscored Prairie View A&M 10-9 in second-chance points and 19-7 in points off the bench.

Nicholas Jones led UAPB with 11 points and Markedric Bell chipped in with 10.

Trasity Totten scored 23 points to lead the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff (216, 1-11 Southwestern Athletic Conference) on Tuesday, including a layup as time expired to force overtime, but the Golden Lions were outscored 13-5 in overtime to fall to Prairie View A&M (38, 2-7) at the William Nicks Building in Prairie View, Texas.

UAPB led 34-25 at halftime, but was outscored 41-32 in the second half. Prairie View A&M led 64-56 with 1:09 left in regulation, but Khadijah Brown made a layup and a three-pointer that cut the lead to 66-64 with 13 seconds left.

Tamiracle Taylor missed two free throws with 12 seconds left that would have extended the Panthers’ lead, and Shicoriya Orr missed a three-pointer that would have given UAPB the lead, but the ball went out of bounds and was awarded to Prairie View A&M.
