LR vaccination clinic set

Saturday morning event planned at Sixth Street clinic

- JOSEPH FLAHERTY

CHI St. Vincent officials will administer the covid-19 vaccine Saturday at a clinic on the northeast side of Little Rock.

Shots will be administered at an existing community care facility located at 2500 E. Sixth St. The facility is a partnership between the city of Little Rock and CHI St. Vincent.

Health care and dental services at the community care clinic are ordinarily offered to low-income patients using a sliding scale of fees based on their ability to pay, according to a CHI St. Vincent spokesman.

During the vaccination clinic from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, walk-ins will be accepted for individuals who meet the vaccine eligibility requirements, no appointment necessary, according to CHI St. Vincent.

After receiving his injection of the single-shot Johnson

& Johnson vaccine at an Express Rx pharmacy located in southwest Little Rock, Mayor Frank Scott Jr. told reporters Wednesday that he was happy to hear the news of expanded vaccine eligibility in Arkansas earlier this week.

Scott said approximately 900 essential city employees were eligible for the vaccine after Gov. Asa Hutchinson announced Monday that the state would expand eligibility to all categories listed in Phase 1-B.

“I’m happy that I was part of that essential class to get the vaccination and one of the first ones to get it,” Scott said. “Right now, we have a number of different partnerships that are to help not only our residents, but also our city employees.”

In addition to essential government employees, newly eligible categories in Phase 1-B include manufacturing employees, public-facing transit workers and grocery store workers.

The city of Little Rock has nearly 2,200 full-time authorized employees, according to the most recent municipal budget approved for 2021.

According to the Arkansas Department of Health’s vaccine schedule, the category of essential government employees on the city or county level includes mayors and city council members, public-facing clerks, librarians and waste management workers.

Scott said more mass vaccination clinics were expected around the city.

Little Rock city officials recently approved a six-month lease for the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences to administer shots at the Centre at University Park, a community center located at 6401 W. 12th St.

Of the three covid-19 vaccines currently available in the U.S., the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine will be administered at the clinic Saturday, according to CHI St. Vincent spokesman Joshua Cook.
