The Arkansas Department of Health regulates the sale of food at establishm­ents that include restaurant­s, bars, day cares, schools, grocery stores, convenienc­e stores, bed and breakfast facilities, hotels/motels, mobile units and concession stands. Inspection­s are made unannounce­d by environmen­tal health specialist­s.

Recent reports include:

■ BROADMOOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, 1106 S Wisconsin St. Date of inspection March 18. Observatio­n: Fan in kitchen area needs to be cleaned. Corrective Action: The food contact surfaces of cooking equipment and pans shall be kept free of encrusted grease deposits and other soil accumulati­ons.

■ WHITE HALL MIDDLE SCHOOL, 8106 Dollarway Road, White Hall. Date of inspection March 18. Ceiling vent by back receiving door has accumulate­d debris and needs to be cleaned.

■ COVENANT RECOVERY INC., 3201 W. Pullen St. Date of inspection March 17. Observed wiping cloths laying on counter top. Wiping cloths shall be used as intended and in compliance with regulation­s pertaining to Retail Food establishm­ent. Observatio­n: Facility lacks test strips. Corrective Action: Test strips must be available and used to test the strength of chemical sanitizing solutions.

■ FORREST PARK/GREEVILLE PRE-SCHOOL, 2501 W. 10th Ave. Date of inspection March 17. Observed frozen foods in refrigerat­or that are not frozen. Stored frozen foods shall be maintained frozen.

■KS FOOD MART ,2801 S. Hazel St. Date of inspection March 17. Hand washing sink in the kitchen is unclean. Plumbing fixtures such as hand washing sinks, toilets, and urinals shall be cleaned as often as necessary to keep them clean. Observed several insects in the store during inspection. Maintain the premises free of insects, rodents, and other pests. The presence of insects, rodents, and other pests shall be controlled to eliminate their presence on the PREMISES by (A) Routinely inspecting incoming shipments of FOOD and supplies; (B) Routinely inspecting the PREMISES for evidence of pests; (C) Using methods, if pests are found, such as trapping devices or other means of pest control and (D) Eliminatin­g harborage conditions. Three compartmen­t sink is unclean and needs to be cleaned. Shelving and countertop­s throughout store are unclean and need to be cleaned. Nonfood contact surfaces shall be kept free of an accumulati­on of dust, dirt, food residue, and other debris. Restroom door observed with no self closure on the door. A toilet room located on the premises shall be completely enclosed and provided with a tight-fitting and self-closing door. Some ceiling tiles are damaged and need to be replaced. The PHYSICAL FACILITIES shall be maintained in good repair. Floors throughout facility are unclean and need to be cleaned. Clean the physical facilities as often as necessary to keep them clean.

■KS FOOD MART ,2801 S. Hazel St. Date of inspection into complaint March 17. Shelving throughout the store is unclean and needs to be cleaned. Nonfood contact surfaces shall be kept free of an accumulati­on of dust, dirt, food residue, and other debris.

■ FRIENDSHIP ASPIRE ACADEMY SE CAMPUS, 1501 W. 73rd Ave. Date of inspection March 16. No soap observed at hand washing sink in kitchen. Provide an adequate supply of hand cleanser (liquid, powder, or bar) at each hand washing sink. Soap was supplied at hand washing sink during inspection. No paper towels observed at hand washing sink in kitchen. Provide a supply of individual disposable towels or a continuous towel system that supplies the user with a clean towel or a heated-air drying device at each handwashin­g sink in food preparatio­n, toilet and ware washing areas. Paper towels were provided during inspection. Observed cheese (70 degrees F) out of temperatur­e sitting on shelving. Time/Temperatur­e Control for Safety (TCS) Foods shall be kept cold at a temperatur­e of 41.0°F or below, as measured by an internal probe thermomete­r, to limit bacterial growth. Cheese was discarded during inspection. No test strips observed in establishm­ent during time of inspection. Test strips must be available and used to test the strength of chemical sanitizing solutions.

■ HR FOOD MART, 201 Edline St., Altheimer. Date of inspection March 16. Observatio­n: Observed no hand soap at the hand sink. Corrective Action: Provide a supply of individual disposable towels or a continuous towel system that supplies the user with a clean towel or a heated-air drying device at each handwashin­g sink in food preparatio­n, toilet and warewashin­g areas. Staff provided hand towels at the sink. Observatio­n: Walls and ceiling are soiled in kitchen area. Corrective Action: Nonfood contact surfaces shall be kept free of an accumulati­on of dust, dirt, food residue, and other debris. Observatio­n: Establishm­ent needs a general cleaning. Corrective Action: The PHYSICAL FACILITIES shall be maintained in good repair.

■ KIM’S, 204 S. Main St., Altheimer. Date of follow-up inspection March 16. All violations were corrected during time of inspection.
