-

of Stuttgart, Ark., passed away in the comfort of her home on March 19, 2021. Mildred was born on September 7, 1923 in Stuttgart, the daughter of Leland H. and Gladys Beverly.

After graduating from Stuttgart High School, Mildred was a salesclerk at Ben Franklin. After two years, she spent a year working at Western Union in Stuttgart. She transferred to Dallas, Texas where she continued to work for the Western Union Company there. While living in Dallas, Mildred attended Draughon School of Business where she learned shorthand and other secretarial skills. Due to illness, she only worked at the Dallas Western Union office for one year. She spent the remainder of her early years doing secretarial work at Fairbanks Morse and Layne Arkansas in Stuttgart. She then went to work at Pritchard Clinic for Dr. Jack Pritchard taking care of all the insurance claims for his patients. She became very close to the Pritchard family and even traveled with the family on several wonderful trips. The remainder of her working years were spent at the clinic in Stuttgart.

Mildred was a lifelong member of Grand Avenue United Methodist Church. She loved assisting with the Kindergarten Sunday School class. She devoted herself to helping the children in this class for more than 40 years. She was so creative and artistic with any art projects and Christmas plays where she frequently wrote rhyming parts for the children.

After retiring from work, Mildred volunteered at the Museum of the Grand Prairie. She enjoyed her time there helping in any capacity where she was needed until her health prevented her from continuing.

Mildred was truly one of God’s special servants. She was devoted to her family and was a second mother to generations of nieces, nephews, and cousins. All the children were treated to time with Aunt Mildred, Ms. Mildred and Aunt Millie. She took the children fishing, babysat, out to get a hamburger, to area festivals and so much more. Mildred created special Christmas ornaments for family members. Many of the ornaments related to events going on in the life of the recipient. It might be a car, a telephone, a hot dog, a witch or your basic Christmas ornament such as Santa, angel, church, etc. She has such a steady hand to paint such details on each ornament. She also created Easter egg characters out of hollowed eggs such as elephants, dinosaurs, giraffes, fancy ladies with hats, children’s eggs and so much more. Each egg was usually on a cardboard stand so they could easily be displayed. These ornaments and eggs were always such special gifts and remembrances. Mildred created travel books to entertain the children when they went on car trips. She created a simple travel games with little prizes for each child.

Mildred was so giving all of her life, even up to the end of her life when she gave her body to UAMS for medical research. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leland and Gladys Beverly and two brothers, Dr. Nolan Beverly and Donald Beverly. She is survived by her sister, Marilyn Semmes of Maryland and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved her dearly.

The family would like to thank her caregivers from Superior Senior Care, Baptist Home Health, Baptist Health Hospice Care and Dr. Kirk Coker.

A celebration of Mildred’s life will be announced at a later date. The family requests memorials to Grand Avenue United Methodist Church or the Museum of the Grand Prairie.
