GARY PHILLIP WOOD

-

passed away on April 4, 2021 in Maumelle, Ark., at the age of 80. He was born on December 24, 1940 in Morrilton, Ark., and was preceded in death by his father, Billie, and his mother, Leora. He is survived by his son, Phillip (Beth); his daughter, Andrea (Jeff) Dixon; his son, Jeffrey (Robin); seven grandchildren: Lauren, Melissa (Brian), Noah, Olivia, Christian, Aaron, and Savannah; and three great-grandchildren.

Gary served in the U.S. Air Force and was a retired physician. During his lifetime, Gary participated in numerous marathons and half-marathons around the world. He also loved riding his bicycle, and would often take road trips to participate in organized bike rides. A quiet person, Gary loved to read and write stories, was constantly involved with random fix-it projects, and enjoyed attending church and spending time with his family. Gary spent many years sharing his love of reading with the children at Jefferson Elementary School and his love of movies with his fellow parishioners. Gary enjoyed a life-long love of music, which he shared with his children and grandchildren, and firmly believed that life was too short to drink anything less than whole milk, and loved moon pies, peanut butter sandwiches (with crunchy peanut butter), and anything with coconut.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made in Gary’s name to the Central Arkansas Library System, Scout Troop 30 at St Paul Methodist Church in Little Rock, or St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Little Rock. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Cremation Services of Arkansas (501)313-5431. www.cremationservicesofarkansas.com
