MABELVALE — Janell Marie Evans,

81, of Mabelvale passed away at her home, surrounded by family on Sunday, April 4,2021. She was born March 10, 1940, in LakeCharle­s, La., to Paul and Thelma Benoit. She grew up in Lake Charles and moved to Arkansas at the age of 16, where she attended Mt. St. Mary’s School. She retired from Arkansas State Hospital after 35 years. She enjoyed bingo, casinos, fishing, cruises, and loved spending time with family. Janell was in the Bowling Hall of Fame and an avid animal lover. She was a member of the Razorback Foundation, attending games since 1968. She was a “dyed-in-the-wool” Democrat who enjoyed a good debate. She was a lifetime member of VFW in Saline County. Janell was an active member of Odd Fellows #7, Benton, where she enjoyed donating to children’s needs of Saline County.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Odd Fellows #7, P.O. Box 1792, Benton, Arkansas 72018.

Janell was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bud Evans; and her brother, Robert Theriot.

She is survived by her son, Robert “Bobby” Self (Toni); her daughter, Alice May (Rick) and her son, Terry Curtis; grandchild­ren, LeeAnn Newman, Samantha Hess, Michael Curtis, Justin Curtis, and Dilan May; five great-grandchild­ren; and her special friends, Keith Lertpenmae­ta and Lloyd Rushing.
