DOROTHY JEAN LIGGETT BUCZKOWSKI
peacefully entered her heavenly home on Friday, April 16, 2021. She was born on January 31, 1934, to Virgie Curtner Liggett and Arthur Preston Liggett in Kennett, Mo. Dorothy graduated from Kennett High School, where she was known for her vocal ability and beauty titles in Kennett and Southeast Missouri. Dorothy met Edmund (Ed) Buczkowski on a blind date in 1953 and Ed was swept away by her beauty and grace. After a three-month courtship they married in Kennett. Dorothy and Ed lived in Pine Bluff, Ark., Jackson, Tenn., and moved to Little Rock in 1964, where she resided the remainder of her life. Upon moving to Little Rock, the family joined Calvary Baptist Church and Dorothy was an active member there for 57 years. Her faith and church family were very important to her and it was there she made lifelong friends. Dorothy was a member of the Faithful Servants Sunday School Class.
Dorothy was known as the consummate hostess and homemaker. Ed loved to hunt and fish and you could frequently find her in the kitchen making a southern meal of squirrel, rabbit, deer or catfish. She was a seamstress, quilter, excellent cook, collector of recipes, and a voracious reader. Holidays were filled with culinary delights and a beautifully decorated home where the family would gather.
Dorothy loved live entertainment including theater, musicals and concerts. her favorite live entertainment was being surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who filled her heart with joy. Dorothy was preceded in death by her father, Arthur Liggett; her mother and stepfather, Virgie and Merle Glover; and her husband of 60 years, Ed Buczkowski.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Laura Daven (Tim) of Little Rock; and son, John Buczkowski (Tonya) of Eagle River, Alaska. She had four grandchildren, Kinsey Carr (Elliott) of Conway, Patrick Daven (Rachel) of Jacksonville, Fla., Mark Daven (fiancee Mary Buckley) of Little Rock, Faith Buczkowski of Eagle River, Alaska; and three great-grandchildren, Preston, Garrett and Kennedy Carr, all of whom lovingly referred to her as “MiMi’.
A private burial will be held. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to “Missions” at Calvary Baptist Church, 5700 Cantrell Road, Little Rock, Ark. 72207 The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the devoted caregivers who assisted Dorothy: Cindy Stehle, Gloria Bearden and Deborah Piggee.
