FAYETTEVIL­LE — Jean Herd

was born in 1928, in Monticello, Ark., to Hubert and Marie Shelton. Heaven welcomed her home on April 19, 2021. She was a graduate of the University of Arkansas, earning B.S. and M.S. degrees. She later earned an additional master’s from UCA. She was Dean of Women at UA Monticello, taught high school science and was a guidance counselor.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Jack Herd, and grandson, Michael Branscum. She is survived by daughters, Jan (Mark) Paul and Judy (David) Branscum; grandchild­ren, Catie Paul, Sarah Paul, John David Paul, Jack (Kristy) Branscum, Evan (Ashley) Branscum, Ethan (Katie) Branscum, and Rob (Hannah Grace) Branscum; and eight great-grandchild­ren. Jean was a member of Central United Methodist Church.
