CAROLYN HARRIS MCLEOD,

83, of Little Rock, passed away Tuesday, August 3. Carolyn was born October 14, 1937, in El Dorado, Ark., to the late Judge Oren Harris and Ruth Harris.

In 1941, Carolyn’s father was elected to Congress, where he served until 1966. As a result of the family spending more and more time in Washington, D.C., Carolyn was enrolled in the District of Columbia Public Schools and graduated from Coolidge High School in 1955.

For college education, Carolyn attended the University of Arkansas at Fayettevil­le, where she graduated in 1959 with a degree in Education. At the U of A, Carolyn was a popular co-ed, a member of the Chi Omega sorority, and a Razorback cheerlead, er for three years. In 1960, after teaching one year in Memphis, Carolyn married George McLeod of Walnut Ridge and moved back to Fayettevil­le, while George completed his undergradu­ate degree.

From 1962 to 1964, Carolyn and George lived in Columbus, Ga., while George was on active

duty with the Army. They lived in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, from 1964 to 1967, where George had secured a job with a global financial brokerage firm. In 1967, they were able to transfer to Little Rock, where they lived the rest of their lives. In Little Rock, Carolyn was an active member of the Junior League and of her church. Throughout her married life, Carolyn was an outstandin­g wife and homemaker, and a devoted mother. She was caring, patient, a great cook, and a heck of a tennis player.

Carolyn was predecease­d by her father and mother, Oren and Ruth Harris; and by her brother, Jim Harris. Carolyn leaves the following family members: George McLeod, her husband of sixty-one years; her son, Scott and his daughters Maggie and Emily; her son, Matt and his son Morgan; and her daughter, Mary, all of Little Rock.

A funeral service at Pulaski Heights Methodist Church, 4823 Woodlawn, Little Rock, Ark., 72205, will be announced at a later date. Interment will be in the Columbariu­m Gardens at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church. Memorial gifts may be made to the PHUMC Foundation at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church.
