TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Carolyn R. Martin Avant,

-

was born on February 14, 1942, in Louisiana, to Kurby and Dollie Martin. She passed from this life at the age of 79, at Hospice of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa, on August 8, 2021. Carolyn was of the christian faith and we have great peace knowing she is with the Father. Carolyn was a 1960 graduate of Fairview High School in Camden, Arkansas. After marrying Billy Avant of Camden, Arkansas, she moved to Demopolis, Alabama. She worked as a bookkeeper at Demopolis High School for most of her adult life. After the death of her beloved husband, she returned home to Camden, to help care for her ailing mother. She worked as a Realtor for Century 21, a job that brought her great joy. She enjoyed all of her coworkers and everyone that was a part of her life, they became an extended family to her. Anyone that knew Carolyn well would agree that she was a strong, independent woman with a zest for life. She was considered spunky with a dry sense of humor. You always knew where you stood with her and you did not dare ask for her opinion if you did not want an honest one. She was always one to speak her mind.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Avant; her parents Kurby and Dollie Martin; an infant son, Anthony Wayne Avant; her beloved daughter, Pamela Avant McKinley; her two sisters, Vickie Martin Gibson and Judy Martin Cooper; and her two brothers-in-law, Donnell Taylor and Don Cooper. She is survived by daughters, Candace Avant Hagler (Jeff) of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; Angela Avant Combs of Camden, Arkansas; and son-in-law Kevin McKinley of Demopolis, Alabama. She was blessed with seven wonderful grandsons, Chase Flowers of Camden, Arkansas; Chad Flowers of Gilberton, Arkansas; Cody Hagler (Amy) and Zachary McKinley of Demopolis, Alabama; Jordan Hagler, Landon Hagler (Ashley), and Keaton Hagler (Hannah) of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Her three surviving sisters include, Sylvia Cox (Bill), Joyce Raney (Ron), and Karen “Nicki” Taylor, all of Camden, Arkansas. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Kent Gibson of Quitman, Texas. Carolyn also had six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed and forever loved by us all. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday August 21, 2021, at 10 a.m., at Cullendale Assembly of God on Cash Road. Brother Scott Knight will be officiating.
