CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Albert Withers

was born on January 3, 1946 in Camden, Ark., to William and Mary Lee Withers. Albert got his wings on August 15, 2021.

Our heavenly Father called his name and he answered, yes Lord.

He graduated from Scipio A. Jones High School in North Little Rock, Ark., in 1964. After graduation, he enlisted in the US Army. He was a paratroope­r in the 173rd Airborne Brigade.

After his stint in the military, he came back home to Arkansas. He attended Arkansas Baptist College at night and worked for Reynolds Metals Company in the day. He earned his Bachelor Degree in 1973.

He continued working for Reynolds Metals Company in Bauxite, Ark. When the plant closed in 1987, the company transferre­d him to Texas in 1988. He had a great career and retired with 45 years of service.

He married the love of his life Dorothy Robinson Withers on October 27, 1973. He was the father of four sons and was always instrument­al in raising his grandchild­ren. His sons knew him as a firm, yet loving father. He instilled the values of work hard, keep your word, be kind to others, respect your parents, and honor the Lord, Our God.

As a young man, Albert was very active in Saint Mark Baptist Church in Little Rock, Ark. He was superinten­dent of the youth department, usher, and trustee chairman. When he relocated to Corpus Christi, Texas he continued his work in the church. He was a Sunday school teacher, trustee, finance committee member, orientatio­n committee member and a deacon. He united with Corpus Christi Christian Fellowship where he was a faithful member for 18 years.

Albert had many hobbies. The one hobby that remained constant was his love for drag racing. In 1970, he became state champion in Carlisle, Ark. At the speed shops, he was known as “Big Al” but on the drag strip and amongst other racers, he was known as Hooker A.

Albert is preceded in death by his father, William Withers, his mother Mary Lee Withers and his sister Patricia Ann Withers. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife of 48 years, Dorothy Withers, sons Bryan Withers, Rodney Withers (Cynthia), Derrick Withers and Barrett Withers. Grandchild­ren Derrick Thomas Withers(Brittany), Amsden Withers, Bailey Ann Withers, Marcelle Pearl Withers, Simone Thomas Withers and Gabriel Saldana. Siblings Ida Boles (Earnest), Evelyn Crain( Arthur), and Calvin Withers along with a host of relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 5-9 p.m., on Wednesday, August 25 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel with a Prayer Service to be recited at 7 p.m., that same evening. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m., on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at Corpus Christi Christian Fellowship with Interment to follow at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.
