BENTON — Effie Underwood Catlett,

80, of Benton passed away Sunday, August 15, 2021. She was born on August 9, 1941, in Mount George, Ark., to Tolbert and Dollie Underwood.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life of 55 years, Willie Otho Catlett. They made their home in Sherwood until his passing in 2017. She then moved to Benton a few years later.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, GeorgeAnn Gist; brothers, Bob Underwood and Roy Underwood; and a nephew, Kevin Underwood.

A devoted wife, mother and grandmothe­r, she loved children and the elderly. For many years, she babysat children in her home and enjoyed keeping an eye on the neighborho­od kids. She loved pampering older ladies by rolling and styling their hair. A favorite pastime was quilting and sewing with her longtime friend and sister-in-law, Wilma Catlett. She also loved crocheting, gardening and cooking delicious meals for family and friends. She will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her children, Tonya Catlett (Judith Baysinger) of North Little Rock, Robin Widmer (Charlie) of Conway and their children, Rachel and Lauren, Kelly Sledge (John) of Benton. and their children, Kaleb and Samuel, and Bryan Catlett (Melissa) of Sherwood and their children, Kayleigh and Scott Myers and Isabella Banks; sisters, Jewel Madzey of Ft. Smith, Eulene Brown of Tennessee, and Carolyn Marenic (Lee) of Alabama; a brother, Wayne Underwood (Judy) of Danville; sisters-in-law, Becky Underwood of Dardenelle, Wilma Catlett of Waldron, Gail Hunt (Delbert) of Danville; a brother-in-law Dean Catlett (Sharon) of Eureka, Calif.; and many nephews and nieces.

Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 21, 2021, at Moore’s Chapel. Mr. Lynn Garner will officiate. Burial will be in Moore’s Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time on Saturday at the church.
