PINE BLUFF — Mr. Levi Thomas, Jr.,
64, retired Executive Director of United Family Services, Inc., departed his life on August 12, 2021. He was born in Duncan, Miss., on May 8th, 1957 to Rev. Levi and Lena Mae Thomas.
After graduating from Broad Street High School in Shelby, Miss., he received his bachelor’s degree in social work from University of Arkansas Pine Bluff. Upon graduation, Levi worked with children at DHS as a social worker. After that he worked as a juvenile court probation officer for a number of years. In 1991, he stepped out of faith and started United Family Services a non-profit dedicated to provided intervention services to juveniles. God blessed his non-profit agency to grow over the years to numerous programs. In 2021 the agency celebrated 30 years. He was a member of New St. Hurricane Missionary Baptist Church Pine Bluff, Ark., where he served as a Trustee.
Levi was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Michael Thomas, Earnest Thomas, and Cornelius Thomas; sister, Derotha Thomas.
Levi leaves to cherish his loving and supportive wife of 39 years, Pauline (Welch) Thomas; two beautiful daughters, Lekita Thomas of Benton, Ark., and LeCreesha Thomas of Little Rock, Ark.; three sisters, Manevia (Johnny) Hunt of Madison, Illinois, Margaret (Ray) Baines of Shelby, Miss., and Rosie Thomas of Pine Bluff, Ark.; two brothers, Hosia (Christine) Thomas of Pine Bluff, Ark., and Arzell (Katherine) Thomas of Illinois; three adorable grandchildren, Leilah (Nurse) Goins, Keagan (Doctor) Awonsang, and Kruze (Senior) Lambert. He also leaves a host of nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends.
Due to COVID-19, services will not be open to the public. However, a public walk-through will be held at Brown Funeral Home Pine Bluff, Ark., on Friday, August 20th, 2021, from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 21st, at New St. Hurricane Baptist Church, Pine Bluff, Ark., with Pastor Derick Easter officiating. Services will be live streamed on New St. Hurricane Facebook and YouTube. Services are entrusted to Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff, Ark.
