Teen Book Vs. Movie Night BATESVILLE — Teens ages 13 to 19 are invited to the Independence County Library, 267 E. Main St., for Book Vs. Movie Night. A movie adaptation of “The Scarlet Letter,” by Nathaniel Hawthorne — Easy A (PG-13), starring Emma Stone — will be shown in the Teen Lounge. Attendees are not required to have read “The Scarlet Letter,” but the book is available for checkout at the library or from the digital library by downloading the Libby app on a mobile device. Colors & Coffee
BATESVILLE — The Independence County Library, 267 E. Main St., will offer Colors & Coffee, a new program for adults to color, drink coffee and enjoy the company of others, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. every Tuesday in September at the library. The program offers adults an approach to relieve stress and socialize. All supplies will be provided to attendees free of charge. While not required, masks are strongly encouraged when browsing the collection or attending a program at the library. Free masks are always available at the circulation desk. Legion Riders Meeting

Big Fun on the Bayou
BATESVILLE — The inaugural Big Fun on the Bayou 2021 will take place both days. The event will include kayak and canoe races, live music featuring grammy-winning duo Troutfishing in America at 8 p.m. Saturday in Maxfield Park, arts and crafts, food, other live performances and more. Events will take place along Main Street and in Maxfield Park. Canoe and kayak racing will occur on Poke Bayou, beginning underneath the Golden Overpass. SATURDAY 9/11 Ceremony and Open House
CABOT — Criswell-Robinson American Legion Post 71, 600 N. Grant St., and the Post 71 Auxiliary will have a 9/11 Ceremony at 11 a.m., featuring several guest speakers. At 10:30 a.m., there will be an open house for the new American Legion Post 71 location. Free hamburgers and hot dogs will be served after the ceremony, and the public is invited to attend. The Invisible Life Exhibit
BATESVILLE — The Batesville Area Arts Council presents The Invisible Life, an exhibition by Markeith Woods, at the BAAC Gallery on Main, 226 E. Main St., through Oct. 9. The Invisible Life explores the psychological state of living as a Black male in the United States and is an inspired narrative of life to demonstrate love, respect, compassion, agony, oppositions, confidence and death. The exhibit is free and open to the public during BAAC’s regular gallery hours, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
ADWORC Program Certification Classes
NEWPORT — Arkansas State University-Newport’s ADWORC Program is offering certification classes in CPR, OSHA-10
(an Occupational Safety and Health Administration class), forklift and manufacturing at the Tech Depot, 425 Front St. The program is designed to increase the employment rate in the ASUN service area by preparing eligible candidates for jobs in the manufacturing, hospitality and allied-health fields. Participants must meet one of the following requirements: been recently released from jail/prison within the past two years, have an annual household income of less than $86,475 or be unemployed due to layoffs. Memorial Golf Classic
CABOT — The Cabot Lions Club’s annual Memorial Golf Classic, in memory of Lion Rick Meadows, will take place Sept. 13 with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. The four-person scramble will be at the Rolling Hills Country Club on Mount Carmel Road/ Arkansas 321. SEARCY — The White County Fair will take place Sept 13-18 at the White County Fairgrounds, 802 Davis Drive. There will be no Senior Citizens/Veterans Day at the fair because of COVID-19 safety issues. Trial by Jury at Powhatan
