JAMES FARMER, JR,
76 of Sherwood, transitioned August 23, 2021, at home surrounded by his loved ones. He served 27 years in the US Army, where he received outstanding accolades, a few which included: Bronze Star while valiantly serving during the Vietnam War, Army Accommodation Medal Third Award, Good Conduct Medal Seventh Award National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, Vietnam Service Medal with Four Stars, Meritorious Unit Accommodation First OLC, NCO Professional Development Ribbon Three, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Ribbon Two, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. After retirement from the US Army, James Farmer continued working and was employed with the Civilian Student Training Program (CSTP): and retired after 14 years. Mr. Farmer loved to fish and was an avid long-distance runner. He earned several running badges, including one for the 400-mile club. He is survived by devoted wife of 51 years Shirley Toombs Farmer, Children; Veronique (Robert) Worlds, Brian Toombs, Tamara Toombs Harris, Dr. Kimberley Farmer, James Christopher Farmer, and siblings: Barbara (Ray) Solee, Dorothy Farmer, Alline Brown, Esau Farmer and Lucille (Richard) Veasley; 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Vera Lee and James Farmer Sr., one daughter, Veda L. Toombs, siblings; Erma Williams, Isabella Cotton, Milton Farmer, David Farmer, Christine Jackson, Evelena Chandler, and Alice Farmer. Viewing September 2, 2021, 2-5 p.m., Premier Funeral Home.
