MAXINE BROWN JACKSON,

-

of Jacksonville, Ark., was born November 24, 1922, in Ellettsville, Ind., and died March 31, 2020, in a rehab center in North Little Rock. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, her interment has been delayed until now. She will finally return to her loved ones in Indiana, to be laid to rest next to her husband of 55 years, the late Harley F. Jackson (Lt. Col., Ret.). She was also predeceased by two infant sons, her parents, three sisters, and a brother. Her surviving children, Sheila Rodriguez, Randall Jackson, and Terry Jackson; grandchildren, Angie and John Rodriguez and Kyle Jackson; and great-grandchild, Jonas Alexander Rodriguez, miss her terribly and will forever keep her in our hearts.

Married at just 17, this small town girl spent 28 years as the wife of an Air Force officer, traveling far and wide and making lifelong friends wherever she landed. Her adult life was devoted to raising her children, as we moved across the country multiple times, and being the quintessential Air Force wife. After their retirement, Maxine concentrated her volunteer work on serving the former Rebsamen/ North Metro Medical Center as a Hospital Auxiliary Volunteer for nearly 50 years. She held “every office possible” there, including President, and you would often find her leading the Gift Shop team. Honors included the 1989 Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce President’s Council Citizen of the Year, KSSN96 FM Volunteer of the Week for July 6, 1992, and RSVP 1988-2016 award for 28 years and 30,000 volunteer hours. Her children also remember bridge and canasta clubs and coffee klatches she initiated wherever they were living at the time, and her sassy dominoes group in Jacksonville in her later years. She took great pleasure in being a good friend and brought laughter, and malapropisms, wherever she went, not to mention her interesting potluck dishes! She tried her darnedest to make it to 100 but fell a little short. Fortunately, her quick mind and lively spirit remained to the very end.

Services will take place Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at the Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville, Ind. In lieu of flowers, if desired, memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Ellettsville, or the charity of one’s choice.
