MAXINE ELAINE BRUNDAGE BIGGERS,

97, of Little Rock, passed away September 15, 2021. She was born in Mason City, Iowa, November 4, 1923, the daughter of G. DeWitt Brundage and Edythe Smiley Brundage. She was raised in Algona, Iowa, and attended Iowa State University from where she joined the WAVES during WWII. She was a storekeepe­r at the Naval Supply Depot, Oakland, Calif. She was with the City of Little Rock for over 33 years, retiring in 1988 as the first woman City Collector. She was State Commander of the Civil Air Patrol from 19821987, the first female commander in the six-state Southwest Region. During her tenure in C.A.P., Colonel Biggers was the escort for C.A.P. cadets to Israel in 1975 and to Hong Kong in 1988.

She was past president of AARP Chapter #34, AARP Chapter #2362 and former AARP State Coordinato­r for Community Operations, former president of Arkansas Women in Aviation and former president of her Beta Sigma Phi Chapter. She was a long-time active member of Grace Lutheran Church, holding membership and offices in many boards and organizati­ons of the church. She was a former member of the Governor’s Commission on Veteran Affairs, former President, State Director and Region Representa­tive of WAVES National and a life member of American Legion Post #1. She was a long-time organizer of the annual Women Veteran’s Recognitio­n Luncheon.

She is the widow of J.W. Biggers and is survived by sons, Calvin (Veeta) and Brian (BJ) of Little Rock, and grandchild­ren, Scott and Catherine Biggers, Amber (Ben) DeAnda of Corinth, Texas, and Lance Biggers of Little Rock, and great-grandson, Zachary deAnda.

Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church Central Fund. The funeral service will be held in Parker Hall at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Kent Schaaf officiatin­g on Monday, September 20, 2021, at 10:30 a.m., followed by burial at the Arkansas State Veteran’s Cemetery in North Little Rock.
